When Dean comes to he's freezing and sore, and there's a vague memory of a fight that got out of hand, but not much else. He shuts his eyes with a groan, trying to remember what happened; he was with Charlie, telling some fuck to leave her alone an then- oh yeah, they got kicked out. Damn, Charlie must have been pissed at him. How he ended up in an alleyway is a bit of a blur, but he's just glad that Charlie's not around anymore to find him like this; knowing him, he probably sent her home and came up with some lie about getting home on his own. His head is pounding and when he tries to move a sharp pain shoots through his shoulder, so he just stays put and hopes that he'll just pass out again. If he was more conscious and more sober, he'd realize what a terrible idea it is because it's snowing and probably close to zero, but right now he's focused on not feeling anything, and the easier way to do that is just to pass back out.

Summary
Life is nothing but a series of processes. We rise, we work, we function within the walls we’ve designed for ourselves. Dean Winchester does not deviate from this system. Heavily tattooed and a certified genius; Dean necessitates control. Relationships are a no-go. Too messy, unpredictable. And yeah, he knows having casual sex with his best friend, roommate, and business partner is a dumbass move. But Cas’ suggestion is impossible to resist.
What Dean doesn’t expect and couldn’t possibly predict is the unique way Cas manages to shut down his mile-a-minute mind, giving him a level of inner peace he’d thought to be unattainable.
What starts out of convenience morphs into a dynamic emotional slide neither of them were prepared for, forcing them to decide what they’re willing to risk.

Dean’s finger rests against the glass case in front of a row of cranberry cupcakes, his order frozen on his tongue. Annoyance ripples through him, and Dean straightens and spins to face the judgemental asshole behind him. “What d’you say?”
“Did I stutter?” The man stares at Dean with muted blue eyes. “One does not patronize the finest bakery in town only to get a cranberry cupcake. Sacrilege.”
“What’re you, the town expert on baked goods or something?” Dean crosses his arms and tucks his chin to glare over the rim of his sunglasses. A flash of brilliant blue nails him to the floor. Holy shit, those eyes are so not muted. But pretty eyes don’t make him less of an asshole. “Well, what would you recommend?”
“Salted caramel is where it’s at,” the stranger says without pause. “Everyone knows that.” His face splits in an indulgent smile, the corners of his eyes crinkle, and Dean’s not sure if he wants to wipe that smile off with a fist or a kiss.

Cas doesn’t even look up from his plate, his mouth full of baklava and some stray flakes of phyllo dough sticking to his lips when he says, “Yes.”
Dean feels more than sees Sam go very still across the table, forkful of salad and grilled chicken poised in midair.
