Summary
Foggy puts his arm around Matt whenever they’re sitting next to each other. He ruffles Matt’s hair when Matt says something that makes him laugh so hard that he has to lean on Matt because he’s the closest thing to hold him up. The last time they got drunk, he hugged Matt five times in one hour.
Matt longs for the days when he was repressed enough to ignore this and blames Foggy for everything in his head. If he was less lovable all of the goddamn time, less thoughtful and funny and open, maybe Matt wouldn’t have fallen in love with him and he could just be normal about all of this.

Well–okay, the last person he expected to see was his Aunt Virginia, who literally died earlier that year. Second place, though, goes to Matt, who’s wearing one of his mom’s aprons—bright red polka dots—and mashing potatoes in the kitchen. He looks contrite when Foggy walks in.
“I told her I shouldn’t come,” he says, with the tiniest smile.

This time, the worry is tinged with horror; Matt’s got a nasty bruise on his left cheekbone travelling up to his brow—his eye must be black under the glasses—and a split and bloodied lip. He’s holding himself stiffly too, and there’s blood and dirt on his clothes, shirt and jacket rumpled, bloody stain on one knee—shit, he’s wearing the same suit he was wearing when he left the office for his Thursday afternoon thing.

Recovery was… Well, Foggy wasn’t sure what his expectations for recovery were. Mental health – despite a ten-year-long… whatever it was they had… with Matt – was not Foggy’s forte. Sure, he knew people on antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds, but he’d never actually been close enough with someone in an intake program to know what to expect. Especially when said person was practically non-responsive.
Post-Season Two. Matt's in the hospital and Foggy does his best to navigate recovery and his undecided feelings.
