    Summary

'I won't kill you, if you teach me sign language.' Taph read it, staring at it a bit longer before pointing to himself. It was a good offer, Taph avoiding rounds of pain that Jason was in, for the exchange of education.

'Me?' Is what he seemed to convey to Jason. The killer nodded in response.

Taph stayed silent for a beat longer before the wings around him seemed to unfurl. He pointed towards the notepad, making a writing gesture with his hands. Jason fished out the pencil in the pocket of his jacket, handing Taph the notepad and pencil.

After a little bit of scribbling, Taph showed the words to Jason. 'Do you know the alphabet?'

A shake of Jason's head showed he in fact did not. Taph nodded, scribbling once again. 'We'll start with the alphabet.'

Or just Jason learning sign language from Taph.

    “What is she?”

“Huh?” Chance paused briefly to look at them, quickly going back to work after. Their hands were firm, but kind.

“Lady Luck. You keep invoking her. Is she a person? A deity?”

“You wanna have this conversation now?” They have the feeling that Chance has cocked an eyebrow behind their sunglasses.

“Just-” A groan of pain slips through their clenched teeth. “Just humor me.”

Two Time and Chance discuss things like their beliefs on gods, the lives they lived before, and if certain things really deserve faith in the end.

The moderator on the right frowned, “This one’s quiet. Sure there isn’t anything wrong with him, boss? Although,” Her face contorted into a grin, “Wouldn’t hurt if we messed him up a little bit, huh?”
The middle moderator threw his head back, laughing. “Yeah, I-”
    BAM.
The world was spinning as Taph stood from the position he was thrown into when his Subspace Tripmine went off. Large black wings were folded over his body, protecting him from the worst of the explosion. However, the moderators were not quite as lucky, bodies contorted in various grotesque poses, blood dripping from wounds caused by flying shrapnel. They seemed to be alive, which was his intention anyways. Nevertheless, he ought to check, padding softly up to them, checking their pulse. Yep. Still alive, although the splitting headache they would get when they woke may still finish them off.

    “No kind act goes unpunished”...
What a stupid saying. Who would say something like that?

A certain someone's betrayal was still somewhat fresh in Chance's mind due to how few months ago it was. They didn’t know that one kind act would permanently change the trajectory of their life.
For the better or for the worse is up to one’s discretion.

I wrote ANOTHER doublefedora fic, after many requests on my other one. This one is a bit more extreme and will likely be longer.

    Summary

Ever since being forsaken, Chance realized that there was a slight probability that he didn't live much like the other's had here. Maybe the first reason for that was that he was the only one to die in the hands of their lover, that didn't seem to be a common thing amongst the group. But, more specifically, no one seemed to be truly haunted by their deaths. Sure, everyone was traumatized, but Chance didn't believe that everyone else experienced some of the things he did. So, Chance has to learn the hard way how to heal past things that felt like the world was ending. Specifically, they had to learn these through the trials and tribulations of falling in love with one of his closest friends in this forsaken place: Elliot Builder.
