Simon dies at the bottom of an ocean of blood on AT-5. Except he doesn’t. Simon is re-captured by the C.O.I. and sentenced to death. Except he isn’t.
Simon is, apparently, safe here now– wherever HERE is.

En route to Erid, the Hail Mary picks up a signal from an unknown object. It turns out to be a ship– an impossibly HUMAN ship, nearly 12 light-years away from anywhere that might make sense. Curiosity kills the cat, Grace and Rocky get a little bit more than they bargained for, and the Hail Mary might just have a new crewmate.
If he lives, that is.

It was suppose to be a short vacation, the Eridians had outfitted the Mary with enough supplies for the three of them - Grace, Rocky and Adrian to fly to the nearest solar system to check out the status of the latest taumoeba probe and check out the weird phenomenon that Erid's senors had noticed. But then Mary got stuck and stopped responding, they were all locked inside the Don't Go Crazy Room and there was some weird movie playing on the screen and nothing was making sense anymore.
The circumstances that the Convict found himself in was uncomfortably familiar and Grace didn't know how to deal with his feelings about it and what was done to him back on Earth - since he'd purposely been refusing too do so for years.
At least he had his best friends with him while he slowly became emotionally attached to a fictional character.But was Simon really fiction? Or was something else at play here?

The light grew and pulsated around him as the pain from before returned to his body, pulling at his skin and digging its way into his bones. He didn't want to open his eyes, but something with a far stronger will than his own brought him to do it anyway.
And there, in the midst of the illuminating, blinding light, a hand reached out towards him.
It wasn't a conscious thought, but a voice echoed all around him and anchored itself behind his eyes.
I want to live.
Shaking, Simon reached back.

Two weeks after the disaster of a conference that was meant to be his academic victory run and the successful start of the rest of his life as a molecular biologist, Ryland Grace escapes to one of Washington’s state parks. Hiding away in his twin brother’s cabin, Ryland has to come to terms with the fact that the life he worked so hard for had slipped right through his fingers because his ego had been larger than his logical brain, and now he’s haunted by a community of scientists and online enthusiasts yearning to run what little is left of his dignity into the ground.
But as a hike, one fuelled mostly by spite because obviously he didn’t learn his lesson just yet, goes south, he’s forced to call the rangers for help. And because life hates him, the ranger who told him not to wander into the woods is the one to take his call.
Something about ranger Simon’s disapproving and definitely disappointed look cuts deeper than he anticipated.

"The stars are gone. The planets have disappeared," was what Simon was taught all his life. He killed and he bled because fighting for food and for resources was all he was taught. And then Filament station went up in flames and 62 people died in the blast. Now Simon is in prison. Haunted by his own guilt as well as the vision of beautiful blue eyes and a bright yellow coat of a man he couldn't save in time.
Ryland Grace can't remember his life before but he can remember seeing this prisoner before death took him. And what's a ghost to do when they can't remember anything else but the last person they saw in life? Haunt them, he supposed.

Summary
The Manor is changing. It has been quite some time since the last ego appearance. The Manor was always considered an ‘anomaly’ (So are people sharing the same face!—argued engineer, forgetting about existence of twins). It seemed to know when exactly a new ego would arrive by making them a room.
Blood droplets are certainly not a room.

Summary

Simon died down there, at the bottom of an ocean in blood. He knew it, deep in his heart. Which is why he's very confused when he wakes up still on AT-5, being stared at by the very monster that led to his death.
