“It’s my job to be ‘in your business,’ Spider. I have to keep you alive. I have to know things to help you.”
They take another turn; Spider allows himself to fall into the window, cooling his cheeks against the glass. “I’m alive,” he says, staring at his breath fogging up the window. “Congratulations. Job well done. I’ll get you a sticker next time I go to the craft store.”
Norm sighs and physically backs down. Spider sees how his spine relaxes, leaning back against the seat. The grip on the steering is loose, too.
Part of him hates that he notices. The other part feels something give in his stomach, and Spider looks back out the window. It’s safer to do that when the situation allows for it, and Spider is fucking fantastic at reading the situation.
He’s safe.
