"God, Alex, I don't know how you get through life being so-"
"...So?"
But Henry isn't responding, his train of thought cut off entirely at the sight of the cursive scrawl on Alex's now exposed chest, shirt entirely unbuttoned. The font is in perfect cursive, looping around the letters as his eyes hone in on two words in startling clarity, black ink against tanned skin.
Bloody child.
"Prick." Henry says, nothing more than a breath, and watches as the font curls and changes to reflect the word.
"Ex-fucking-scuse me?"
Panicked at the thought of Alex being stood directly in front of a mirror, he whispers underneath his breath the first word that comes to mind, “Gorgeous.”
“Are you having a stroke?”
In a world where the last thing your soulmate says about you appears on your skin, Henry has always wanted to see the black script curl across his chest. Unfortunately for him, his soulmate turns out to be the infuriating wedding planner determined to work alongside him, who has absolutely zero interest in finding his own soulmate.
Life is what you cake it, he supposes.

Summary
Alex meets his soulmate at a party and immediately decides that his soulmate can never, ever know. Easy enough when the man flies back to England a few weeks after. But when Henry walks back into Alex's life several years later, and becomes a permanent fixture in it, it throws something of a wrench in his plans. It's awfully hard to never speak to the man who June and Nora have so quickly adopted into the fold.
But it's all for the best.

Summary
There’s no question that Henry is the love of her little brother’s life. He’s perfect for him, if June’s being honest: handsome, calm, generous, genuine. He’s even got a pretty good sense of humor underneath all of the etiquette.
The only problem is that she’s never heard of a Henry Fox before; hadn’t even known that Alex finally figured that part of himself out; and the only problem is that she’s met him by accident in the middle of a hospital waiting room, with her brother's life in an unknown limbo on the other side.

As he’s pulling out his textbook, a shadow crosses over Alex’s bag. Before he can look up, a warm, distinctly accented voice asks, “more exams?”
“They never stop,” Alex says. He looks up at Henry, who is grinning down at him with his arms crossed over his chest. If Alex notices the way his shirt is pulled taught over his broad shoulders then that is no one’s business. Henry glances at his textbook, and Alex finds himself angling it so Henry can see better. “Criminal procedure. It’s about–”
Henry leans one arm on the table, and his blonde hair flops down into his eyes. He’s studying the book cover like he’s the one with the exam, and this close Alex can see a tiny mole on his upper lip. “Uh… criminal… procedures.”
The corner of Henry’s lip quirks up and – Jesus Christ. “You don’t say?”

Three weeks before Henry Fox's tour for his fourth, highly anticipated, awards-bait novel A Brief War in December begins, his publicist Janella breaks her foot on a bunny slope at Windham.
Alex can't be mad at her, even though he kind of is. Saying it out loud would be like kicking her when she was down, and she already went down a literal mountain in the worst way possible.
Now crammed in Rafael Luna's corner office, Janella is shooting Alex extremely apologetic looks while slumped on her crutches, wearing a bright orange cast. The conversation about who is going to be joining Henry Fox on his multi-city trek across the U.S. is also going downhill. Alex is feeling the same sort of free fall while standing still.
Because out of all the publicists available in their tiny underfunded department, the only one left to escort their company's best-selling author is regrettably him.
The problem is, well, Alex absolutely hates Henry Fox.
Or: Alex is the publicist for Mountchristen Publishers, and is stuck on a two-week tour with their best-selling, but frustrating, author Henry Fox.

The storm in his head rages on, his stomach sinking like a ship in its tide. Maybe Henry is exactly who Alex believes him to be: good and honest and true; maybe he’s perfect in every way Alex knows that he is and simply, plainly, doesn’t want him.
That's the worst possible answer to the questions that have become his entire being today. It sends another set of sobs hurling past his lips. The idea that all of this was real, Henry just doesn’t care that much, is sickening— debilitating— Alex doesn’t know how to face it.
