Kukui balls up his hands into fists, clenching very tightly as Guzma walks off. If he was a stronger man he wouldn't be having thoughts of running after Guzma and giving him the sucker punch he deserves for insulting his Keiki, but alas, Kukui is not that strong. Just as he’s about to continue after Guzma, he is brought back to by Satoshi.
“Kukui-hakase, leave him be,” Satoshi says softly, shaking his head. “Pikachu and I are alright,” he pleads with Kukui.
Pikachu is now standing up on two feet, giving a heartful “Pika!” to Kukui.

That maybe, he could manage relatively well all by himself, that suppressing his own emotions and agony could get him along just fine and dandy.
However, a raging pain in his hands and arms has come to spread to his heart. And, he's not sure what to do with the overwhelming despair that's overcome him.

Like the windchimes she used to always have in the garden, which he would close his eyes and listen to for hours sometimes, when he was very small, until she’d find him under the tomato bushes and take him inside and clean off his scrapes that always healed faster than they should.
She doesn’t even need a battle. She just throws a pokeball at it and it jumps up to meet it, and the ball rocks only once before confirming the catch.
