Vel shifts against her to brush calloused, warm fingers down Kleya’s cool cheek. “I’m yours, Kleya,” Vel whispers, sounding almost afraid. “If you ever want me.”
Her yearning look softens with sympathy, and she leans in to press a lingering kiss to the corner of Kleya’s mouth, right on the crinkle where she always anchors her smirk. It draws a broken, shaking exhale from Kleya.

Watching Harrow suffer and survive assassination attempt after assassination attempt all while Gideon is uselessly locked away in her head is a torture unlike Gideon could have possibly imagined.
She never thought it could get *worse* than watching Harrow fight for her survival every waking moment, but she should have expected Ianthe to make it possible. Perhaps it's misplaced sentimentality, perhaps it's girlish optimism, call it what you will, Gideon hates whatever facsimile of trust Harrow has for Ianthe.
Told from Gideon's POV in the style of Harrow the Ninth, a one-shot of an instance where Gideon truly regrets her sacrifice.
