Alicent Hightower gave Viserys Targaryen five children. One is a lazy rake who can't see past his own lust. One is an ambitious boy, hungry for power and validation. One is a dreamer, far too soft for a world so rotten. One was sent to learn to do battle with his uncle.
And one was perfect.
The moment Alicent held Vaedys in her arms, she knew that the little girl would be her pride and joy. Not because she loved her more, gods know Helaena would always be loved best, but because Alicent could train Vaedys to be just like her. Make her strong, make her resilient, make her smart. Not a hair would be out of place. No one would question her honor or her virtue or her worth as a daughter of the Dragon.
As tensions between the two Targaryen factions continue to worsen, Alicent knows that she has no choice but to give her perfectly molded daughter to Rhaenyra's oldest son for his wife. She had denied him Helaena, but now she has no other choice. But breaking the betrothal between Vaedys and Aemond that had been in place since they were children in favor of marrying her to Jacaerys has unforeseen ramifications.
In an effort to end a war before it begins, she may very well start another.

The princess did not answer. Lord Baratheon noticed quite early that his lady wife was not much of a conversationalist. Not much of a dancer nor a drinker, either. Her eyes only flicked to him – cool and watchful.
It made Lyonel smirk. “Maekar’s work”, he added lightly. Hammer it in early and it never cracks. Gods forbid she bends. Bending is how things break.
She lifted her chin a fraction. Not defiance. Barely curiosity.
He drank again, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand before stepping closer. “You don’t look when I expect it. You don’t laugh when I expect it. You don’t even speak when I expect it,” he said, almost accusing. “That is dangerous. Makes a man try harder.”

Aemma spirals when she realises how deep her feelings for Aemond actually run and takes matters into her own hands.
This is just a one shot for now but I may add a part two :)

“And as usual you’re here to rescue me from myself,” he laughs. This deep, self-deprecating chuckle she’s gotten accustomed to.
Except his eyes on her have a new warmth. An ember, grown from the tinder of kinship. Two wounded souls recognizing the pain in front of them.
She plops the brown paper bag on the marble. “How do you feel about pasta?” She asks, busying herself with emptying the content.
“Better than I do about the dinner I was about to have,” he replies.
He’s playing it off as humorous but the gravity in his voice is still there, the seriousness of the unsaid that always lingers between them. Not because they can’t speak the truth, but because they don’t need to.
