Summary
It had been such a simple, romantic request.
"I would like to visit the Auvergne with you someday," Louis had told him, in that heartbreakingly hopeful way he always suggested that they do something together.
1985. Lestat takes Louis to visit what remains of the Chateau de Lioncourt.

Summary
"I thought I could do good," Louis whispered, ashamed to the core of how completely futile it all sounded now. "I thought I could be good." Lestat's eyes blazed silver and gold in the candlelight, and Louis held them, wracked with such anguish that he felt he'd crumble if Lestat looked away now. "Haven't you ever wanted that, Lestat?"
1794. Pointe du Lac lies in ashes. Lestat, desperate to keep Louis with him at any cost, tries something he's never tried before: he talks.

Summary
"Is that why you want me with you in New York?" Louis asked. "In case it's the end of the world?"
Lestat looked at Louis strangely, his head tipped slightly to one side. His white hair fell against his shoulder, and Louis fought the urge to brush it back. They were in public, surrounded by mortals, but Lestat loomed so large in Louis's vision that none of it seemed truly real.
"Would you be there with me if it was?"
1999. After months on the run from the Talamasca, Louis just wants to spend Christmas in New Orleans with Lestat. Will either of them ever manage to say what they actually mean? Featuring religious imagery and a trip to Montgomery Ward.

Summary
There was a small theatre on Decatur Street in the early days of the nineteenth century, and just the same as nearly every playhouse in New Orleans, Lestat brought Louis there to see Macbeth. What the performers lacked in gravitas they made up for in sheer quantity of stage blood, and Lestat had spent the rest of the night teasing Louis for his squeamishness.
It had been consumed by fire long ago. The old facade was rebuilt and replaced, the interior was converted to shops that had since fallen into disuse, and not even a small metal plaque still remained to remind passers-by of what it had once been.
Lestat still remembered, of course.
New Orleans, 1985. Lestat, struggling with change, comes home to Louis and an unexpected gift.

Summary
The trouble began, as it so often did, with Lestat's lips against Louis's throat.
In which Lestat utterly misunderstands the nature of Louis's reticence to, as they say, Get It On.

It sounds obscene, more so than anything he’d done as a mortal, and yet—for Lestat. It’s just—there’s a lot he’d do for Lestat.

Summary
When Lestat asks Louis to come join him at the new vampire court, Louis assumes he wants his support for expedient reasons rather than romantic ones. It takes Louis a surprisingly long time to notice he's in a real marriage and not one of politics or convenience.
Louis' perspective during Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis.

Summary
It's the same face Louis had pulled when he'd anxiously asked Lestat if he was leaving them - him - again, back in the graveyard, and that means Louis is afraid that postponing the trip to London might provoke Lestat into leaving him for good. Lestat wants to protest, but… well, the fear isn't entirely unfounded. His knee-jerk reaction had been anger, after all.
Writing those books has pushed him into far too much self-reflection, he thinks grouchily. He's never second-guessed himself this much before. Never worried so much about everyone else's feelings.
No, he thinks, You just had decades of regrets instead.
He grinds his teeth, but he's not really angry. How can he be, with Louis here in his arms, so anxious to be near him? And thinking about his plans in London that had felt so delicious and exciting - to break the rules, and put the fear of The Vampire Lestat into David Talbot - now they seem so pointless and empty. This - this is more important.

A coffin is brought in. They're going to lock Louis in it and let his starvation drive him mad, then toss Claudia out into the sun.

These pathetic little fledglings with delusions of grandeur less than fifty years into the night think that they're going to kill blood-of-his-blood? He, sole heir of Magnus, who drank of the Old Queen herself?
They think they're going to kill his daughter?
No.
