“It would be easy for me to just, I don’t know, dig up these bones,” Rio began in a dangerously casual tone. “Crumble them to dust. Scatter it across the earth. Even you would start to have problems after a certain level of disintegration. That would be true even if you had the Darkhold – which, of course. You don’t.”

Agatha had anticipated this, and she sidled forward. “Come on,” she said, voice dropped. “You can’t do anything to me like this.” Rio’s eyes flickered up to hers to indicate that she was getting the double entendre and wasn’t impressed, but Agatha wasn’t finished. “I’m off limits, out of your jurisdiction.”

“So that’s your play?” Rio said. “I let you try, and if you succeed, we’re back to our usual game?”

Agatha tilted her head, bit her lip, smiled. “So… what do you say?”

    ---

Post-canon. Agatha's back to making deals with Death and pushing the new boundaries of ghosthood, Rio's dealing with something new to her in her history of existence, Billy's learning the fundamentals of being a witch with the people who are left.

    Summary

Agatha Harkness is supposed to be covenless witch. Unfortunately, she's also a rulebreaker who breaks her own rules the hardest. Now she's stuck with a zombie housewife, a defective protective detective, an annoying midtier (at best) midwife, a seemingly senile seer, a power stealing scarlet witch who doubles as a power bank, and a brat whose trying to find another, probably more annoying brat. It's enough to make a girl wish for Death. Which is a whole other problem that won't go away.

    Summary

If you watched Agatha Harkness step out of her sleek purple Cadillac with an iced coffee in one hand and a speckled rabbit in the other, you might find yourself wondering if those crazy old rumors were true.

You know the ones. The half-jokey conspiracy theories that dominated BroadwayWorld’s messageboards back in the day, claiming that Ms. Harkness was some kind of ancient witch. What other explanation could there be for a performer who, despite her strikingly distinctive looks, can chameleon herself so effortlessly in period pieces ranging from the colonial past to a superhero-ridden future? What else could account for the two-time Tony nominee’s relentless work ethic, hopping from show to show without a sick day or a stress pimple in sight?

(Speaking of that famously perfect skin…well. We’ll get to that!)

“What kind of trials?” the boy asks. “Like, for each skill? Potions, and Protection, and – ”

“Sort of,” Rio says before Agatha can open her mouth. “They’re specialized to fit each element of the coven, for sure. But it’s really the leader who’s being tested.”

Oh, Agatha’s steaming. Rio flashes a smile that shows off her back molars.

“Our posse’s Ringo is mistaken,” Agatha says, setting her jaw. “When our time comes, each of us will, in turn, need to take charge of – ”

“Nope,” Rio says, shaking her head. “Don’t you remember, sweetheart? Are you going senile in your old age? It’s exactly what the Ballad says: 'Follow me, my friend, to glory at the end.' Whoever assembles the coven needs to do all the dirty work. Everyone else can help out, but Agatha’s the one with her neck on the line.” Rio solemnly faces the boy, who’s listening raptly. “If Agatha doesn’t complete every single painful, grueling, humiliating trial herself, we’re all doomed.”

    --------

Joining the coven from the very beginning, Rio quickly figures out that feeding lies to the nameless teenager affects the reality of the Road. (Not great news for Agatha.)
