What the men who forcibly drag Nicky out of the cell without heeding to Joe's protest noises do not understand, however, is that Nicky can be silent.
When they make him kneel in front of the cell, he looks at Joe, registering the concern in his dark eyes, the fear on his face, and the anger at not being able to do anything in his posture.

Like Joe's elegant artist hands, which he could feel blindly and which lie firmly and securely on his hips and pull him closer to the glowing, muscular body. Like the fruity taste of good wine on Joe's tongue and the salty sweat from dancing on his lips. Like the familiar tickling of his beard on Nicky's chin and the soft texture of his curls, in which Nicky buries his fingers and elicits Joe a rumble, which Nicky catches and tastes in his mouth.

Booker fills one mug with coffee for himself and adds a shot from his flask. Nile doesn't comment on it, because they all have their problems. “What did you do, Joe? Did you try to make pancakes again?”
After a mission Nicky is angry and the team doesn't know why. With the only brain cell of the group it is up to Nile to set them straight.

Five minutes later, Nicky carries Joe piggyback, his own backpack on the front of his chest. Joe's faint protests are silent now, his head resting on Nicky's right shoulder and his curls brushing Nicky's cheek regularly in the rhythm of his steps.
