Fixing things is, for you, also a little bit about the power.

Summary
“Strangling is quicker and cleaner and makes no noise to speak of.”
“Yeough!”
“You have a nice throat for it,” pursued his lordship, thoughtfully. “It has a kind of arum-lily quality that is in itself a temptation to violence. I do not want to be run in by the local bobby for assault; but if you will kindly step aside with me into this convenient field, it will give me great pleasure to strangle you scientifically in several positions.”

When he was growing up, he was so afraid of scorpions he thought about them every ten seconds, every five. Started drawing them on his desk at school. Dreaming about them. Catching them under cups in the garage. He knew every fact there was to know about scorpions.
He was wearing one on his back right now, custom stitched onto his jacket. He had asked for that. Wanted it. Paid money for it.
Maybe Standard was afraid of another man fucking his wife the way he used to be afraid of scorpions.

"We had an informal system: Manhattan knew me as Julia's thing. Since Sebastian rarely suffered himself to be seen in that borough, all of Brooklyn belonged to him and me. Queens was...not usually a consideration."

I wanted to write a modern NYC AU in the style of Donna Tartt or Claire Messud. I think it kind of worked.

In other news, since no one on this website seems to have WRITTEN Sebastian/Charles/Julia, let alone NAMED the ship, I feel it's well within my rights to call dibs on that right now. Come join me in the incestuous filth of Connecting Flytes. -
