So... this is kinda post 10.14. Danny is still working his way through his grief, he's doing okay but Steve really just wants his friend back, and to do a little something special. But he doesn't know how to go about it and doesn'twant to make Danny feel worse.
Inspired by the heart-wrenching previews of 10.15, and a screen shot Lenkov shared of a supposed Valentine's Day-ish episode where Danny is sitting on the couch with Steve's arm around him. (Perhaps I completely hallucinated that last part, but who doesn't love Steve and Danny snuggled on the couch.)

edit: We were told via press release that Kate Siegel was playing a woman named Leslie. According to previews for next episode we learn her name is actually Joanna. I’m not changing my story, but for future readers... thats where there may be some confusion.
This is basically like an alternative draft of my previous story, Every Word Was a Piece of My Heart. So there's a lot of repetitive themes/scenes. This one takes Steve and Danny back to Steve's house, and their chairs on the beach. There's anger, and hurt, and pain, and a dash of humor because that's just "Danny" to me.

Summary
In which Danny is a Shifter, Steve has many Issues because of Shifters, Five-0 is a delightful place to work (ask Steve), and two grown-ass men have to figure out how the fuck to fall in love when one of them has Issues and the other one isn't always human. This causes problems, naturally, because McGarrett doesn't like Shifters much (at all), and Danny is a Shifter. They're determined man-creatures though; they'll figure it out.
