Summary
When the barrier between the human and demon realms was weakened and Temen Ni Gru rose from the depths of the Underworld, the former apprentice of Sparda, Modeus was caught up in a sudden portal that began to appear near the demon tower. It took him into the tower itself and there... he meets a younger Sparda? Who is this Sparda look-alike and what connections did he have with his mentor?

Summary
Post DMC3: So what happens when an apprentice of Sparda goes to Fortuna? He surprise adopts his mentor's grandchild and Dante's nephew! No. Really. It's not a joke.
While on a trip to Fortuna, Modeus came across baby Nero in an orphanage, not even 3 months after the events of Temen Ni Gru. And what did he do? Kidnaps baby Nero and takes him back to Devil May Cry because Dante has to know about him. Turns out, he doesn't and after figuring out that Nero is Vergil's son, Modeus decides to raise Nero with Dante's and Lady's help. What could go wrong? :)

Baul wasn't sure why he even bothered.
The wind tugged at his coat, carrying the dust of a long-dead road. He shouldn’t be here. Not chasing some half-breed brats. And yet... here he was. He told himself it was stupid. That this wasn’t his problem. But Modeus thought otherwise and Baul must’ve been a coward if he didn’t go after his damn younger twin brother.
