Summary
After the original games, Gi-hun attends therapy as he knows he should. One day, his therapist makes a suggestion to move away from the city to leave behind his guilt. After some consideration, he decides to do so, buying a house in the countryside. However, despite moving, he finds that there's one person he can't seem to leave behind.
With fear and shock coursing through his veins, Gi-hun could do nothing but stare. His lips trembled as Sang-woo moved closer, extending a hand toward him.
For a moment, Gi-hun hesitated. Giving in to something like this felt childish, absurd. He wasn’t sure what to make of it. But slowly, almost involuntarily, he found himself lifting his hand to touch Sang-woo’s.
When he did, he realized Sang-woo’s touch was warm and full of life.

Sang-woo doesn't leave his motel room for eight days. He lives off vending machine food, and feels constantly on the verge of a sugar crash.
When he finally does venture outside, on a Tuesday afternoon dull with weak sunlight, Gi-hun finds him. So quickly, in fact, that Sang-woo is not convinced that Gi-hun hasn't been following him.

As Gi-hun plans his uprising, In-ho debates his decisions: either betray Gi-hun or help end these games he's been stuck in for years. In this alternate ending, he ultimately ends up choosing Gi-hun. But, the Squid Game officials decide they're not quite done with the games and In-ho is now stuck as a real player. Gi-hun and In-ho have to find a new way to work together and take down these horrific games once and for all with the help of their other teammates.

When Gi-hun awoke in a room full of strangers and was asked to watch his life play out in HD while everyone got to glimpse every failure and every horror he'd endured, he was surprisingly fine with that.
Turns out, Seong Gi-hun is fine with everything, if it means saving lives even if they do not mean anything to him (yet).
As it is, he can only pray that he doesn't mess up too much in the (apparently very real) future that plays out. (By the end of the first episode, embarassment will be the least of Gi-hun's worries.)

Gihun pressed his eyes shut for a moment. He did not want to talk about it.
He would avoid thinking about it if he had any say in the matter.
But a tiny voice in his head that sounded suspiciously like Sangwoo whispered: What if there is some information they will need later on? If you don’t tell them and they don’t know, they could be in danger. They could die and it would be your fault.
He swallowed, closing his eyes for a second.
How could he recall all those memories? In this place, especially?
But he needed to save these people. He could not bear to lose any more friends because of his own mistakes.He let out a shuddering breath. He needed to do this. For them.
