Summary
A new high chair at the kitchen table, a new carseat crammed in the back of the car, binkies thrown everywhere. Sleepless nights, milk stained shirts, diaper blowouts.
He sees it all, laid out in front of him like a blueprint.

Summary
Frank huffed, setting the mug down. “How many times are we going to have to go over this, Mel? I like listening to you talk. I’m not just being nice. We’re friends.”
“It’s important to ask,” she said, still watching him carefully. “Because sometimes people say they want to know something but they don’t actually mean that they do. They’re just being polite. And it’s hard for me to tell that, always.”
“I’ll tell you what,” he suggested. “Let’s make this easy. With me, you never have to ask. Consider it my… blanket approval, I guess.”
He pointed to himself. “I, Frank Langdon, am interested in what you have to say.”

Summary
Frank was here. At a speed dating event. Which meant that he’d spent his evening sitting across from a dozen other women, looking for the same thing she was - a relationship.
The realization made her stomach sink. For months now, she’d been telling herself there was a reason Frank hadn’t made a move. Maybe he wasn’t ready after the divorce. Maybe he wasn’t even interested in dating at all - maybe he was too busy with work and the kids to even think about it. But he was here, which meant none of those things were true.
Frank wanted a relationship - just not with her.

Summary
His lip is busted and actively bleeding; there's blood in his teeth, too. There's a deep gash above his eyebrow and the formation of a soon-to-be black eye around it. His hair is dishevelled, and his eyes look bloodshot, caused either by tears or something worse.
Frank meets her eyes, looking a little shy. He looks very small in this moment, so vulnerable. "I'm sorry. I didn't know where else to go."

Summary
Frank should definitely feel guilty. He probably will tomorrow, when he has to wake up next to his wife, but he can’t bring himself to give a fuck right now, not when Mel—whose name he didn't even know an hour ago—is whimpering above him, babbling nonsense, abs twitching where he’s laid his arm across her belly to hold her in place. The taste of her is tangy and sweet on his tongue and he would stay here forever, he thinks, if she'd let him.

Summary
“I’m jealous.” It escapes before she can let herself back out, “That my sister has a sex life, and I don’t.”
She doesn’t know why she’s admitting that to him. She honestly doesn’t. It’s embarrassing.
“Right there with you.” His voice is low, “How long–?”
She chews at the bottom of her lip, doing the mental math, “Three years…You?”
“Thirteen months.”
Warmth pools in between her legs, and she clutches his hand like it’s a lifeline.
It’s barely a whisper, she’s so afraid to say it,
“Close the trunk.”
---
“Wait, holy shit, King–” The wand stills inside of her as Trinity freezes the frame.
“What?” She asks, “God, it didn’t nick something, did it? I’m not about to bleed to death?”
“No, but you might pass out.” Trinity answers, “Maybe?”
“What is it?” She tries to sit up, but Trinity’s already turning the ultrasound monitor around to show her.
Her heart stills as she takes in the tiny flickering heartbeat on the screen in front of her, “Oh–”

Summary
When he finds the courage to leave the comfort of her steam shrouded bathroom, he makes his way out to the living room.
He stops in his tracks when he hears her, a fond smile etching onto his face.
He’s careful to disguise his footsteps on the vinyl floor, not wanting her to stop. He was rapidly beginning to realize he could listen to her sing forever.
She flits around the kitchen, alternating between humming and singing along to whatever music played in her ear, and all Frank can do is watch.
“Oh!” She says with a jolt when she finally notices him, “Frank! How are you feeling? I made spaghetti…spaghetti’s okay, right?”
“Yeah.” He nodded, “Yeah, spaghetti’s okay.”
She shuffles out of the kitchen a few moments later with two bowls in tow, “We can sit at the table, the couch…whatever you’re most comfortable with. If you want we can put something on the TV, that’s what Becca usually likes to do…”
“I like when you sing.” He can’t stop the words from coming, and he doesn’t regret them one bit when he watches her face change shades if only slightly.
“Oh.”

People weren’t always patient; it’s just a matter of fact she’s come to accept, as easily as the sky is blue. People weren’t always generous — with their time, much less with their attention — and Mel’s grown accustomed to the exasperated raise of eyebrows whenever her rambles cross the Too Much line.
She’s used to it.
Frank, though—
She hadn’t accounted for Frank.
Or, Mel’s an unstoppable force trying to get over her feelings, and Frank’s an immovable object who won’t let her.

She watches him strut around headquarters, trying to look confident and purposeful as he searches for a reason to be there—orbiting Mel, while being quietly consumed by something she isn't sure he has the cojones to face.
Trinity sighs, weighing her vendetta against Mel's happiness. She really is getting a martyr complex, just like the rest of these sick fucks.
(Kingdon, reluctantly witnessed and orchestrated by Trinity Santos, who kinda has her own thing going on and doesn't need this right now)

All of Mel's boyfriends.
Mel would never presume that Frank Langdon is boyfriend material.
Those were the words Princess had used once—though in a very different tone, after she’d stared a little too long at the new radiologist who’d come down for a consult.
“What about me?” Frank had said, winking at her like a dog begging for a treat.
It had made Mel feel inexplicably sad.
Set some time after season two.

Summary
Some nights were, naturally, worse than others.
Nights where Frank laid in bed for so long, staring at the ceiling, that it made his heart start to race with anxiety and his back ache and ache and ache no matter how he positioned himself. Nights where his thoughts spiraled out into worst-case-scenarios that seemed so vivid and inevitable that he would have to get up and go to the bathroom, just to turn the light on and look at himself in the mirror to remember what was actually real.
Those were the nights when he wanted the pills again the most: alone in his guest bedroom, trying to wring sleep out of his body like the last few drops of water out of a dirty dishcloth.
He tried not to call Mel on nights like that. He did not always succeed.
