Rocket glanced up and was surprised to find Quill sitting up in bed, a single palm covering his face and his other, white-knuckled, fist grasping onto the sheets. “...kay?” An afflicted whine came out of the man, one Rocket had never heard before in his entire life. “Quill?”
Pete dropped his shaky palm and turned to face him. “Rocket?” He called out. Rocket stared at the human with wide eyes, unable to miss the swirling purple and blues in his eye sockets. “What’s—?” Quill’s voice quavered with horror.
“I—What’s happening to me—?”

Peter’s eyes trailed across Gamora’s body, as if he expected to stumble across a dagger or gunshot wound responsible for her dreariness and the tacky paleness of her skin. That had to be it. There was no other sound explanation for her sudden change in state.
“Are you though?” Peter set the holo down at the table in front of him, scrutinizing her from where he sat. “Sick?”

The nurse smiled, a stark contrast to the fluorescent lights glaring at them from behind grimy plastic shields. She spoke with a velvety, empathetic undertone—clashing with the loud beeping, muffled sobbing, and squeaky gurney wheels in the Xandarian hospital. She was all too calm, and Gamora wondered how someone could retain any composure being subjected to such a heinous atmosphere everyday. But then again, one could say the same about the Guardians’ lifestyle.
Like having to watch your companion collapse after receiving a stray bullet to the chest, for example.
