Dick climbs onto the couch with years of practice, snuggles close to Bruce in a way that isn't possible outside this parlor room, outside of this couch so beloved to Bruce first and now beloved to Dick as well. A family heirloom of emotional attachment.

Regardless he stepped forward, though he didn’t turn to look at the figure on the bed just yet. For a moment the two simply stared at one another before Stephanie rolled her eyes at him.
“Here’s where you apologize for pushing me against the wall.” Bruce felt guilt stir at the words despite the fact that she was clearly joking.
“I’m sorry.” The girl’s eyebrows shot up in surprise, as though she didn’t think he would actually apologize. “I guess I don't say that very often in the future?” She gave him an appraising look before shaking her head.
“No you didn’t, though I guess a decade can change a man.”

Jason would never directly annotate any other book, but this copy was fair-game. By the end of it, it had become warped like the ocean, stained with ink, containing all of Jason’s thoughts – including all the curses an 11-year-old could think of – and carefully decorated with Dick’s best crayon drawings.
“I lost it,” Dick says, numb. “I… I lost it.”
All of that, the faint memory of his older brother, forever penned down in that ratty old book. And it’s gone.
He lost it.
Dick loses his most precious memento and begins the grieving process anew.
