Summary
These have been sitting in my Google Docs account for a while and I doubt that they'll ever be finished. So I kinda decided to post these half-finished, completely unconnected one-shots for pairs of Modern Girls in Thedas.
(I'll probably leave the dates on them because they're not really new, and I'm sentimental like that.)

Summary
While the Valar were figuring out how to read a calendar, Freya did the math. She got to review the homework before taking the test this time, which was nice, but that made the most likely endgame obvious. She knew from the second she offered to do it that reverse fetch-questing an evil ring was going to be rough. She was trying anyway. Because she was very, very stupid.
She expected to pay a high price for the chance to stay.
She didn’t expect there to be an extra cost at the end.
Or for them to both pay it.

Summary
(The end is never the end. There's too much blood on too many hands and too many unhappy endings. Six years is a long wait for a grieving mother and a damning curse. It's time for more desperate measures. Perhaps resourcing one of the counselors - as she had watched so many do before - will prove benign. Looks like it's time to save the sole survivor.)
Dylan wakes up in a blind panic, kicking out and falling backward off of the log bench he's sitting on. Maybe it's a bit dramatic, but in his defense, he was just being pinned down in the kitchen, about to get his throat torn out by a goddamn werewolf. Sue him for startling.

Before - The counselors have an ordinary summer at Hackett's Quarry, but there were little things, here and there, that in hindsight seem oddly prophetic.
After - Nick wakes up on the morning of August 23 and realizes that nothing will ever be the same, not ever again.

Torture smells like spring.
Like daffodils and tulips and snowdrops. Like the bouquets brought inside from the manor gardens to lend their life to cold stone walls that house criminals. Easter mixed with madness makes sense in this twisted landscape; Draco’s only chance at survival is to endure it. He knows this. But that doesn’t quell the twitching in his calves, the flexing in his fingers.
Granger lifts her hand off the floor and Draco nearly loses his lunch, stomach churning as he watches her extend her arm, reaching through the translucent cord, reaching towards him. He tries to blink it away, blink blink blink, but both she and the cord are stubborn, persistent things.

fantastic, brain meltingly well written. ate this beast whole while sick in bed and it deserves a better recommendation than possible atm. personal notes to extol this will be written when reader does not feel like tepid death. even if not a dramione fan (a la me), the writing is so good that it sucks you in. will be reading more of this ship just from how well written both characters’ flaws are navigated without minimization or how flaws are the weaknesses of our strengths. soooooooo good.
