A woman with a firm expression looked up to someone else, announcing he was awake.

What kind of name was that?
"A strong one, nice to see you alive. Do you know where you are?"
Apparently he said that aloud, "Heh, I'm g-guessing not Amity? "
He felt the grip on his hand tighten.
"Breathe."
He couldn't.

And so what if he hadn't been sleeping well? He never slept well—that had nothing to do with the…with that.
Nothing to do with…they told him it had been two months. Two months in that cave, on that godforsaken planet. Two months in the dark, red sunlight barely peeking over the horizon in the distance. Two months stuck, injured, cold.

"Ooh, he's there now, isn't he?" Jason asked, appearing at Dick's back and trying to look over his shoulder. Dick elbowed him and shut the door again, as Jason started to shout. "I see him! I see him, he's there!"
"Shut up, man," Dick hissed. Jason cackled.

Dick hadn't given much thought to what kind of a dad he would be.
He knew that he wanted kids (someday) and he had aspirations of family trips and movie nights. Sometimes he'd bring himself back down to Earth and acknowledge that it wasn't likely to be as picturesque as it was in his mind's eye, that his job and his vigilante career would make it pretty hard to be around for his kid all the time.
But that was a problem for future Dick to worry about. At least, Dick thought it was.

Robby gently pulled Jack's hand out of the pocket and over to him. He didn't look it over, didn't move anything, just held it. The goal, for the moment, was just to touch him. "You need ice and an x-ray."
"I know."
