Summary
Frodo loses his parents at a very young age but has the fortune to be adopted by his highly spirited Uncle Bilbo.
Raised under loving care at Bag End, the fauntling blossoms into a kind and empathic young hobbit who gets only sad when he witnesses his uncle’s occasional bouts of melancholy. The desire to uncover the reasons for Bilbo’s sadness eventually leads to a story about his uncle’s adventure with Gandalf and a dwarven company - without the unhappy ending, of course (Frodo is only 14, Bilbo will have you know!).
Frodo wants to know everything about the dwarrows that his uncle traveled with but Bilbo always turns his answers into stories about cranky fire breathing dragons, irrepressible wizards, and the lyrical beauty of Rivendell. What is a fauntling to do when he is convinced that there is only one thing that can make Uncle Bilbo happy again?

Summary
A collection of my meta and speculation essays on "The Hobbit" film universe, Thorin Oakenshield/Bilbo Baggins as a pairing, and general thoughts about the written works of J.R.R. Tolkien and how they relate to the film universe of Peter Jackson.
Essays rely on textual evidence from the films and the books, but should all be taken as my own headcanons written over *several* years, and are specifically geared towards understanding the films as works of art and literature. They should be read as the opinions of a fanfic writer trying to make sense of various plot holes and gaps in information, both for enjoyment and fanfic writing purposes.

Summary
Bilbo Baggins isn't sure about this. Not one bit.
Frodo is definitely too young to enter into an arranged marriage with a dwarven king called Thorin Oakenshield. It's a good thing that Bilbo is there to chaperone him through their courtship.
After all, there's no chance that a fussy hobbit bachelor would ever catch the eye of a king.
