Hands pushed it down, and with a whiny breath, it followed. Its obedience was rewarded with straps to the wrists, biceps, forearms, chest, hips, thighs, ankles. And it’s neck.
A face — a new face, but what was ‘new’? — hovered above its own. 13 squinted lightly against the harsh, painful light — what was ‘pain’? — to catch what the man was saying. He was bald, eyes cold, mean, like the light above his head.
“13,” the man had said, snapping his fingers in front of its face to call it to attention. It grunted in response, or, well, had tried. It was more of a strangled, miserable noise, but the man was satisfied anyway. “13.” His voice could be argued as warm — 13 wanted to believe that the hand encasing its shoulder was warm, since the contact spread through its slick flesh, like— like, something.
The man above it was warm. With that final thought, its eyes slid shut.
