"The guys from Sam’s firm are assholes. They crowd the bar (his bar, mind you, the one he introduced Sam to in the first place), martinis in hand, lounging around and exchanging pleasantries like this is some fucking Hilton Hotel bar. The air is subdued and metropolitan. Strangely and glitteringly robotic, they move all stiff and formal, practiced movements that belong inside of a Wall Street office."
A holiday 80's au in which Dean, a bored mechanic, signs up for a penpal service on a drunken whim and winds up with the strangest yet most interesting penpal he could imagine, all while becoming maybe-sort-of-friends with the asshole lawyer who keeps stealing his diner booth. There's diner conversations, warm whiskey, cold coffee, and plenty of 80's music to go around in this incredibly self-indulgent moody and angsty rom-com.

Summary
When his brother embarks on a risky venture, Prince Dean of Pellia’s only choice is to enter into a marriage with the king of Arxelle in order to save Sam’s life as well as his own. King Castiel is severe, aloof, and no more happy about their hasty wedding than Dean. Marital bliss is the last state either of them expects to reach, but as Dean spends more time in his new home, he and Castiel slowly begin to settle into a partnership that allows them to put the needs of their kingdom before their own feelings. Dean Winchester’s been camp manager of a science research station on the Alaskan tundra for thirteen years. Dean likes his job; fixing the camp trucks, troubleshooting the generators, keeping clueless undergrads and NSF bigwigs from walking into grizzly bears or getting lost in snowstorms — it’s all in a day’s work. It keeps him pretty busy, and this year his brother Sam's visiting too, so he's even busier. So it’s really not any of Dean’s business when some weirdo antisocial ornithologist sets up a tent a few miles away, a dark-haired blue-eyed guy who’s doing a “very long-term" study on birds or wings or something, and who never, ever takes off his big lumpy backpack. But then the new guy starts dropping by camp for coffee and... well, he’s not officially part of camp; he's not Dean’s responsibility; he’s really not Dean’s problem at all, but when a strange blizzard comes sweeping in, Dean gets worried and goes to check. Thing is, Dean's spent years in the sweeping vistas of the Arctic. Summary
Dean spent his life split in two--the Dean who showed up to work every weekday to give his students the tools they'd need to grow into their best selves, and the Dean who spent the rest of his time involved in the fandom for his favorite tv show. Elementary school guidance counselor and prolific author of slash fiction didn't seem like compatible realities. Then he met the adorable librarian at his new school. There was something about Cas that broke through all of Dean's defenses.
Cas had chosen his career path for his own happiness. Fostering the love of stories and storytelling in his students was fulfilling, but he kept his own fanfic writing to himself. His fandom life was the one thing he reserved purely for his own enjoyment, even if the price of that enjoyment was complete anonymity in the fandom. Then the new guidance counselor joined the staff at school and gave him a reason to question everything.
Meanwhile, online...Impala67 and FicFeathers, long time friends and beta readers, were pushed to question what exactly their relationship was, and whether it could survive without the anonymity they'd both always insisted on. Of course it all had to blow up right before their draft deadline.
