    Fate is a funny thing, or at least, metaphorically, it’s supposed to be. It’s not so funny when the fate of an alternate Cybertron rests in Rodimus’ hands, and Orion has been given a second chance but isn’t sure he wants to face the reality it comes with it.

    “No. No. No, no. Why?! Why did you do that, why—”

    Rodimus was dangling over the open chasm, legs kicking uselessly in the air as he stared up into a pair of shocked amber optics that clearly had not been expecting him.

    The mech looked as stunned as Rodimus felt, like he’d reached out on reflex to catch someone else entirely and ended up with a flame-colored speedster instead.

    Rodimus didn’t have time to dissect why that was. His other hand shot up to cling to the thick forearm above him. No way was he giving this mech the opportunity to let him go.

    Or: an AU in which Rodimus and Orion must confront the very real possibility that they’re developing feelings for alternate versions of the mechs who once tried to kill them.

    Optimus spun, his battle mask snapping into place as his ion cannons materialised from subspace. His optics widened as a massive, grey tiltrotor aircraft hurtled out of the sky, slamming into Bumblebee with bone-rattling force. Optimus rushed toward Bumblebee, pushing the smaller bot up. “Bumblebee, are you functional?” he asked, concern clearly in his tone. Bumblebee nodded, rubbing the scuff marks on his backplates.
    The situation grew more dire as the aircraft dove toward them again. Optimus braced himself, but something felt... off. As the craft neared, it began to shift. The aircraft… transformed?? A Cybertronian? Oh Primus was that…

    “Megatron?” he whispered
