Summary
Eddie rests the back of his hand on Buck's forehead, Buck's eyes fluttering as a sigh leaves his lips, and feels the skin beneath his hand, his brows gathering even more. "You're warm. Are you sure you're okay? Is it just nausea?"
It's almost like Buck was expecting him to ask this, because he loosely wraps his arm around his torso to brace it, and lets out a shaky breath, turning his head to Eddie and whispering so small, his eyes glassy and wide: "I don't feel good."
That's all Eddie needs to hear.
His face softens and he gets closer to the other man, chest almost plastered to Buck's bicep, and places his hand on the small of Buck's back. "What's wrong, baby?"
Buck hesitates. "It hurts."

He doesn’t know what’s gotten into him; the memories of Shannon are confusing him, maybe. But, without Buck here to keep him grounded, Eddie regresses to his old habits.
Kneeling at his altar, Eddie begins to pray.
“Please,” he whispers, barely audible, “Come back. I’ll do anything, anything you want. Give me a sign, I’ll do whatever you ask,” Eddie’s voice cracks, and he takes a shaky breath before continuing, “Just please, let him come back to me.”
Eddie doesn’t know if God is listening or if he cares. All he knows is that he has to bring Buck back. He meant it when he said he would do anything. He would move mountains for Buck; he would take as many bullets through the chest as he needed to. He would kill for Buck. He would. He would die for him if that were what it took. He just needs God to accept his plea.

Summary
Eddie had been hoping that whatever was bothering Buck would have dissipated by the time they got to the station but the second they had walked in, Buck had flinched away from the noise, instinctively going to cover his ears. He shrugged it off but Eddie kept a close eye on him as they got to the locker room and started putting away their stuff away.
Eddie waited until it was just the two of them in the locker room before saying quietly, “Babe, what’s wrong? You’ve been off all morning.”
“I haven’t—,” Buck started but stopped at the look Eddie gave him. He shrugged uncomfortably. “My skin feels tight and just, everything feels like too much right now.”
Eddie nodded. “Okay, do you want to go talk to Bobby? You know he would understand if you took a sick day. Ramirez is on call and owes me a favour, I could ask him to take your shift?”
“No, it’s okay,” Buck sighed, shutting his locker. “I just need to shake it off. I’ll be okay.”
Or, the one where Buck is having a bad day and snaps at the team. Eddie takes him home, cares for him, and punishes him sweetly.

There’s a pause before Bobby replies, and Buck knows his team is surrounding their captain. He knows they’re trying to determine his location in this warehouse, and how they’re going to bring him home.
He just doesn’t think it’s going to happen this time.
“Buck, we’ve got your location,” Bobby says, his voice calm and soothing as it reverberates through his ear. “We’re going to get you out, kid. Just hang tight.”
“Too late,” Buck replies, and he coughs again. The smoke is getting more dense, and the heat is starting to get warmer. “M-mask was pulled off…when I fell.”
His breathing is getting heavier, and his lungs are on fire with each gasp he takes.

There’s an awkward silence.
“But you are straight,” Buck says, his tone maybe a little off. “Right?”
Eddie thinks about it for a moment, because honestly, it’s not something he’s ever really considered. Which seems crazy, considering his previously-assumed-straight best friend came out to him in the last year.
“I’ve never really thought about it,” Eddie admits. “I mean, I’ll check out a hot guy’s ass now and then, but that’s normal.”
Buck chokes.
“It’s not ab-normal,” Buck manages to get out. “Or so I hear.”

He’s trying to learn from what Eddie said in that grocery store but he never seems to get it right, even when he tries to stop exhausting his best friend Eddie sees right through him as if he’d made no effort at all.
But he is trying, because this family is all he has and he can’t lose them- he can’t lose Eddie.
