“WHAT?”
“Did. You. Enjoy it,” she repeated.
He wanted to throttle the girl for her insolence. Before he could give her another tongue lashing, Hermione laid a shaking hand upon his forearm. He hissed through his teeth as though he were burned. When she spoke, her voice was gentle.
“If not, Professor, I’d say you haven’t been a Death Eater for a very long time.”

As an unlikely friendship blooms during Hermione's return to Hogwarts for her eighth year, and learns things about herself and the former spy she could never have dreamed of. While her sense of normalcy is once again turned upside down, Hermione must find a way to confront the depths of her own magic as well as learn her own heart as she attempts, once again, to save the Wizarding World from its own darkest elements.

A sceptic even of things he could see with his own eyes, Severus had never taken anything on faith. He held no belief in an afterlife, even less so a pleasant one. And yet, he had always harboured a great deal of reverence for the power of the mind. He would have hoped that, in its last gasp, his hallucinating psyche might finally absolve him of his lifelong misery. Of course, even in death’s final throes, his own mind couldn’t bring itself to be kind to him.
After closing his eyes in the Shrieking Shack at what he believed to be the moment of his death, Severus opens them again on the train back to King’s Cross at the end of fifth year.

His knees knocked under him, the grip on the sink tightening with a hiss as his legs protested holding him up much longer. Damn it all to hell.There was no way he was going to be able to manage undressing and getting into the tub without blacking out in the effort. Quickly, Severus had to negotiate which was worse - asking for help now or it being demanded later when his unconscious body fell to the floor, likely traumatizing his former student further.
“Miss Granger…” he began, voice ragged, “I can’t… do this alone.”
