    “Thanks for giving me an excuse to skimp on teaching! Whom do I owe for this impromptu save?” Satoru’s voice is chipper and obnoxious as always, carrying that vapid aura of arrogance even the tinny sound of a burner phone can’t obscure. It falls along the lines of things Suguru expected to hear. Satoru never did pass up a chance to annoy others and make life more interesting for himself, and that’s what makes it all feel so tragically mundane even when it’s really, really not.

    “Yo, Satoru.”

    A little anticlimactic, Suguru will admit later. He should have led with something else. Like how he’s alive-not-alive, or how he remembers Satoru’s last words to him. Or maybe that he’s sorry for-

    He’s spoken to Cypher multiple times before about the nature of the agent’s work, how he wont specify his methods, how the ones he has shared have been… distasteful, to say the least. Cypher never seemed to take their discussions seriously, much to Sova’s displeasure. He would always laugh, purr out some answer along the lines of 'I do what it takes,' and sometimes throw in 'my friend' for added insult.
    And now here he is, parked across Sova typing away, ensuring that the first thing the hunter sees upon waking is a reminder that the man he hates is the very man who saved his life. That those same hands Sova had fallen into are now, he can only assume, picking apart another person’s life.

    After saving Sova’s life on a mission, Cypher begins to act like he and the hunter are friends. Sova, to nobody’s surprise, does not feel the same.

    It was a routine mission that really shouldn't have developed into a situation. So of course it developed into a situation. But to be fair, how was Kyojuro ever supposed to predict a Blood Demon Art that could transform him into a cat? But it's fine, all he has to do is get to Shinobu and surely she can fix it.

    He did not plan on running into Akaza, or to find out that Akaza has a soft spot for cats. He definitely did not plan on Akaza deciding to keep him, and tell him all about the wonderful slayer he adores.

    Honestly, becoming a cat has become the least of his concerns.

    Shen Qingqiu’s behavior speaks of someone who had learned to hide his feelings out of necessity. Even now, he staunchly refuses anything that brings him the slightest bit of discomfort, and only feels comfortable voicing it in front of Luo Binghe.

    Luo Binghe watches Shen Qingqiu and thinks: In his first life, Shizun must have been a prince.

    (Shen Qingqiu leaves several key details out when he reveals his past to Luo Binghe. In turn, Luo Binghe makes several, slightly incorrect conclusions about who "Shen Yuan" must have been.)
