The thing is he’s fairly certain it would be a resounding rejection if he brought it up. It wouldn’t sting. This isn’t tied up in feelings.
And since he’s so certain it would be a rejection, why bother? He’s not desperate. This isn’t some burning, hot, insistent desire. More like a low simmer, only really noticeable in Naruto’s presence. But when he does notice, woof.
One day, Kakashi realizes Naruto isn't a kid anymore. It's all downhill from there.

“Special grades are supposed to be special—that’s why they’re classified like that,” Yuuji tells him, the blandness of his voice at odds with the way he’s staring at Satoru like he can bore through Infinity and human flesh. “My teacher, the man whose face you’re wearing—he’s the one who told me that. But you’re not special. You’re crawling everywhere like cockroaches, killing and eating and hurting. It’s never going to end, is it? This cycle of curses. It will never end.”
Something…is very wrong here.
“Yuuji-kun,” Satoru says as delicately as he can manage, “I think you’re a little confused.”
Yuuji calmly raises his right hand and scores his fingers down his entire left arm. His nails tear into flesh. Blood streams down the gaping gouges—and then away from the skin, rising high into the air to form a cutting arc.
“That’s Blood Manipulation,” Satoru states, eyeing how the gouges on Yuuji’s arm close. “And reverse cursed technique. Are you aware that you’re supposed to be a hapless non-sorcerer, by the way?”
The fifteen-year-old boy whom Satoru ties to a chair in the isolation chamber isn’t the furious calamity who wakes up.

When he had been told he was “gifted” with being able to see these… curses, he, for the first time started thinking that he was special. His parents didn’t have these powers and never got the chance to go to a private school. Surely great things awaited him.
But that was all bullshit.

Back inside the dressing room, Nanami wiped the sweat away from his forehead, skin humming with anxiety. He had no clue how long Gojo and Geto had been watching. Whether or not they jeopardized the mission, he was still pissed.
Nanami managed not to jump out of his skin as the door slammed open, no doubt making a dent in the wall.

Lounge chairs toppled over and skidded across the floorboards when the ship tipped with the aftershock waves. Kento tasted salt water and sweat as he slid across the floor, knocked to the ground by the force of the gale winds. Geto caught his arm, along with the rail on the deck. His loose bun had come undone at some point, and left his hair wet and unruly, splayed across his face in a way that a quick brush of a hand would resolve. In this position, Kento felt his heart pounding hard in a way that he knew had nothing to do with the direness of the mission.
“You alright?” Geto asked sincerely. “You’re not hurt, are you?”
Kento cleared his throat and regained his balance. “I’m fine. And you?”
“The same. I’m glad. Nice work, Nanami,” he said with a hum of amusement, the charm in his smile so potent that he wasn’t able to refute the praise, that ultimately his presence on this mission was trivial, some sort of formality or punishment to probably all three of them from the higher ups. Though, the whole thing was too contrived for him to fully believe that.
“Wow, you guys are all wet, haha.” Gojo approached them, cocking his head as his feet finally reached the ground. “That must suck.”
