For a moment Charles allowed himself to indulge in his own foolish thoughts.
Maybe this was one of those moments in those moving pictures back in Blackwater or those romantic novels Mary-beth read of. Maybe this was the night where one of the two lovesick characters confessed their everlasting infatuation for one another. Only thing they lacked was a woman and only thing they had far too much of was a man. Surely it'd be fine.

Eddie opens the door with great struggle. The key is just so small and the keyhole even smaller and his hands are shaking. The crow’s steady kaw kaw kaw around him is not in the slightest helpful and makes him want to rip his hair out. He refrains from the action since his hands are preoccupied with the too small key. Eddie could swear the crows are laughing at him when he misses once more. See if he tosses them any more grains, bastards.
He allows himself a small grunt of victory when the door finally opens. With eyes half closes – why on earth were the lights so bright, were they always so bright – Eddie tosses the keys onto what hopefully is the side table. He stumbles forward in the direction of the couch and promptly sprawls over it, ignoring the couches indignant ow.
Or, Eddie has a migraine. He is grumpy about it. A Buck-shaped couch saves the day.
