He’s about to throw it back in when he notices a cork and a distinct lack of liquid inside. On closer inspection is that—? Yep. It’s a piece of rolled up paper.

Slow, slow, slow. Lips, tongues, teeth. Stede thinks about time, about the Adagio for Strings, how it pulls like taffy over a tempo as slow as a lover’s sleeping breaths. Thinks that slow, for Ed, might be more about tenderness than caution. Thinks about him in the cabin earlier, wondering aloud whether his probation would last a day, or maybe more than one day. He thinks that maybe this is slow for Ed. He snakes his arm around Ed’s waist, draws him closer, presses their bodies together.
“I love you,” he whispers, and Ed presses his forehead to Stede’s.
“Take me to bed,” Ed murmurs, and Stede asks, because he has to.
“Are you sure? You said –”
“Take me to bed slowly,” Ed says, and Stede laughs, kisses his lips, his cheeks, his forehead.
