    Tony Stark thought he was tired of HYDRA. The assholes kept raiding his home, trying their best to steal back Bucky Barnes. Then the Avengers raided one of HYDRA's bases, and he discovered a fourteen-year-old boy named Peter Parker being treated like a mere weapon.

    Now, Tony was beyond done with HYDRA. And he had this silent kid in his apartment. Tony had no idea what to even do with kids, all he knew was Peter Parker deserved to be seen as a kid first. Surely taking care of a kid couldn't be that hard?

    Peters life hadn't changed a bit within the five years he was gone. May, MJ, and Ned had all blipped away too so they all returned together. And things with Mr. Stark seemed good, atleast as good as they could be. He acted a little more distant now, but Peter understood why. Everything was fine until Aunt May's new boyfriend came along. At first, everything was normal. Then slowly, but surely, the man began to emotionally and physically abuse him. Peter, not wanting to see his Aunt unhappy again, chose to remain silent as his mental health plummeted. Until he would make a choice that ruined everything.

    (First chapter is mostly fluff, it's gonna slowly build into angst but when it gets there it's DEEP)

    Anxiety gripped Tony. Why didn’t any of them understand? They knew him. They knew he wasn’t father material. Peter was good, and Tony didn’t deserve him. 

    “Because I am not Peter’s father, Clint, and thank God for that,” he bit out.

    A long silence followed Tony’s words, only to be broken by a shaky, “Uhhh. Sorry, I think I came in at the wrong time.”

    Everyone’s attention shifted to Pete, who awkwardly stood in the hallway – his body hovering between the two rooms.  

    “You know, it might’ve been easier if I kept quiet; that way none of you would’ve noticed I was eavesdropping. That’s on me,” the kid rambled, his body taut, like he was preparing to run.
    ----
    OR: When a badly cast spell hits Peter, everything seems fine, that is until a misunderstanding with Tony causes the boy to fall into a magic coma. When the teen won’t wake up, Dr. Strange sends Tony into Peter’s memories, where he must find the boy to put him back together.

    “I have not gone soft. He is not my kid. He’s May’s kid. He’s just some kid from Queens that I asked to help me. What he and I have is strictly superhero business, he’s Spider-Man, I’m Ironman. He's a good asset to the team, that's it. There is no father-son business between us so don’t even think about trying to tell me I've gone soft.” Tony scoffed, defensive.

    Peter drowned out the others' words as they spoke, letting what Tony said sink in. He felt his heart clenching painfully and he had no idea why. Because he had been so stupid to think Tony thought of him as any more than a just superhero that benefited to him and the team.

    or; Peter overhears another denial Tony is Peter's dad right after he realises he sees him as one. It's about as messy as you might expect.
