When HYDRA meets resistance in their attempt to take over the world they send more than just the Winter Soldier to subdue the opposition, but they're still defeated. The teenage assassin they deploy alongside him isn't enough to turn the tides of fate, and when the fighting is done she falls into the hands of the Avengers. This sticks the heroes with the challenge of rehabilitating a child who knows little aside from violence and pain. It's a tall task, but one that at least one of their members has first-hand experience with.

Now, Tony was beyond done with HYDRA. And he had this silent kid in his apartment. Tony had no idea what to even do with kids, all he knew was Peter Parker deserved to be seen as a kid first. Surely taking care of a kid couldn't be that hard?

Peters life hadn't changed a bit within the five years he was gone. May, MJ, and Ned had all blipped away too so they all returned together. And things with Mr. Stark seemed good, atleast as good as they could be. He acted a little more distant now, but Peter understood why. Everything was fine until Aunt May's new boyfriend came along. At first, everything was normal. Then slowly, but surely, the man began to emotionally and physically abuse him. Peter, not wanting to see his Aunt unhappy again, chose to remain silent as his mental health plummeted. Until he would make a choice that ruined everything.
(First chapter is mostly fluff, it's gonna slowly build into angst but when it gets there it's DEEP)

A long silence followed Tony’s words, only to be broken by a shaky, “Uhhh. Sorry, I think I came in at the wrong time.”
Everyone’s attention shifted to Pete, who awkwardly stood in the hallway – his body hovering between the two rooms.
“You know, it might’ve been easier if I kept quiet; that way none of you would’ve noticed I was eavesdropping. That’s on me,” the kid rambled, his body taut, like he was preparing to run.

Peter drowned out the others' words as they spoke, letting what Tony said sink in. He felt his heart clenching painfully and he had no idea why. Because he had been so stupid to think Tony thought of him as any more than a just superhero that benefited to him and the team.

Peter Parker doesn't exist. At least, not how he used to.
Life for Peter has become mere survival. Once Strange's spell erased every trace of him, Peter decided it was best to leave it all behind. No more Midtown, no more Avengers, no more Tony. The only thing he allowed himself was Spiderman, because though he may be fairly useless in his normal life, at least he can still make a difference behind the mask.
When a new threat finds its way to New York, Peter finds himself torn between two choices; does he ignore it and possibly risk the destruction of the only place he's called home, or does he defend and allow his life to once again become meshed with everything that he lost?
All he knows: this isn't just a joke.
