“Oh please, you must have realised I’d not be faithful to you.” A nasty voice snarled, just loud enough for Harry to hear.
He froze, shocked by the fact that anyone would say that, to anyone.
“So, you have summoned me here – on Valentine’s Day – simply to dump me in public?” A deep, incredibly pleasant voice asked.
Harry blinked, surprised that this was a gay break-up.
Running a hand through his hair to try to get it to lay flat, he stepped around the separating wall and put on his happiest smile as he approached the two. He almost faltered – the other man was not what he expected. He’d expected someone similar to him in age – this man was older. He was also not very handsome at all, lank black hair, a big nose, and angry eyes – though the last was, at least, understandable. Harry would be screaming by now, not just glowering.

At ‘sodding Veritaserum’, Snape was suddenly looming over him like a hawk, something dangerous flashing behind narrowed eyes.
"And am I expected to prostrate myself at your feet in gratitude, Potter? Shall I lick your heroic little boots?"
“This isn’t about heroics!” Harry shot back. “You talk to me like I’m some child—can you at least, for one bloody second—?”
A cold nudge at his ankle cut him short. Glancing down in horror, Harry found the pointed toe of Snape’s polished shoe brushing against the shorter of his mismatched socks.
“Shall we begin with the right or the left?” Snape spat. “Your preference?”
Harry recoiled as though confronted by a bloody boggart.

Harry was relieved to be back at Hogwarts for his sixth year. At least, he was until Ron got a girlfriend and Hermione lost her mind over it. Typical chaos ensues.
Severus just wants one year where he can relax. With no unbreakable vows and Voldemort taking a year to recoup after the events at the Ministry, Snape thought his peace had finally arrived. He could not have been more wrong.

Harry is rescued in the summer before his Seventh Year from near-death at the hands of his relatives. Upon waking, he discovers that Snape has been changed by the rescue as much as he has. Returning to Hogwarts finds him wavering under the combined violent efforts of his dormmates, leaving it to Severus to save him again, this time from his own stubborn pride, in the form of an apprenticeship that leaves them living together in the dungeons. At first, Harry is just grateful to be given a new home for the next four years, safe from the traitorous Gryffindors. He could never have suspected how things could change as he gives in to the inevitable closeness with his new Master.
