Ponyboy sprained his ankle three weeks ago. And he is very much ignoring the way the pain had recently been flaring up. He had felt fine for the last week, so fine, in fact, that he begged Darry to take him back to the doctor to be cleared to run for the remainder of the season. His appointment isn’t until next week, though. It’s driving him damn near crazy. He isn’t about to ruin his chance to run again by telling his brothers about the weird new swelling. And cramping. And the odd color of his skin. No way. They’d freak out, and it’s just a sprained ankle. It’ll go away by the morning.

She dug hard, and she was mighty pretty, the kind that’d be hard to draw, but never did she wheedle a reaction like this out of him.
She also never had him bent over a dingy mattress like Curly does right now.
Ponyboy is so, unbelievably done for. A movement of Curlys’ hips has Ponyboy gripping the thin, lousy sheets. Done for, and queer. Which could be the same difference here, so it doesn’t matter at all.
