“What do you mean ‘absolutely not’, dork!?” Erica crossed her arms across her chest as she spat out, “You told me to get new players to join the cause. You said you’d help me teach them DnD so I could start my own club at my school.”
“Yeah, I said to get players, but I didn’t say to get…” he gestured dismissively with his hand and scoffed, “This…”
“Oh, are we doing this again?” Erica’s eyes went wide in a mockingly innocent expression, “Do I need to remind you about when you thought I couldn’t play? And do I need to remind you how I wiped the floor with your precious Vecna campaign? Peter has potential, just like me—”
“Relax Lady Applejack,” Eddie smirked then pointed at Peter, “I’ve got no problem with that one, but that one,” he pointed at Chrissy, “That’s the one that I’ve got a problem with.”
“Me!?”
Or the Queen of Hawkins High gets roped into playing DnD by her younger brother and it turns out that the King of Hellfire is the dungeon master. I think we all know where this is going...

“Guess who’s got a date tonight!?” Steve sing-songed just as Chrissy stepped through their apartment’s front door.
She dropped her commuter bag onto the bench by the front door and stared at Steve and his stupid smile that grew into a muppet grin. A grin that she longed to punch off his face…
“You?” she deadpanned. Trying desperately to act nonchalant as she pulled off her sensible yet professional shoes and placed them beneath the bench, hoping that she wasn’t the one that was doomed in this narrative.
“No, I don’t have a date,” Steve laughed and pointed at Chrissy with both index fingers, “But you do.”
“What!?”
“You’ve got a blind date, baby!” Robin appeared out of nowhere with her mouth gaping open like Statler while she and Waldorf laughed maniacally.
...Or the wonder twins set Chrissy up on a blind date and she runs into Eddie instead.

“You okay?” he whispered into her crown. She nodded, stepping back. His hands slid away slowly, lingering, before falling to his sides. He was biting the inside of his cheek and those eyes, those big brown orbs, were searching her.

Eddie never was a planner, but his new life necessitates having some idea of where he’s going, and when he’ll get there. He’d like to think that makes him more mature, but he’s still flying by the seat of his pants when it comes to the big picture. Getting his CDL was a way to escape Hawkins. To see the country, even if he’s mostly seeing long, lonely stretches of interstate in between depots.
There are bright spots. Hazy desert sunrises that make him want to write a sad song, and the occasional free evening to take in a show, meet some locals. Follow a pretty girl to her apartment if she’ll have him.
Most of the time, though, life comprises shitty diner burgers and far too little sleep. It's a lonely existence, but it suits him fine, until the night a strawberry-blonde ponytail at a gas station in Kentucky stops him in his tracks.

She doesn't need to look at the tab onscreen to remember what it says. She's already re-read the craigslist ad enough times to know it by heart.
'I am a 21 year old felon with no high school degree, and a dirty old van a year younger than me painted like Eddie Van Halen's guitar. I can look a few years older if necessary- depends on whether or not I shave. I've been a line cook at every restaurant you've ever been to in Indianapolis at least once, play lead guitar in a metal band, and work late nights at a bar. If you'd like to have me as your strictly platonic date for Thanksgiving, but have me pretend to be in a very long or serious relationship with you so you can torture your family, I'm in.'

"I'm not," Chrissy whispered. Across the service station, Eddie was talking animatedly to the woman who appeared to run the place. It was unlikely he could hear anything she said, but still, she kept her voice low. "His van broke down—"
"This like a goddamned movie!" Robin crowed. Chrissy could almost hear her roommate pacing around their apartment. "You run into the love of your life—"
Chrissy nearly dropped the phone. "We were just friends!"
"Me and Steve are just friends. You and Eddie are more like star-crossed lovers or ships in the night or something."
Cheeks flaming, Chrissy shot a glance over at Eddie again. He was looking at her–shit–and smiled when she caught his gorgeous gaze. Her heart did a series of pirouettes and backflips as she tried to grin back without drooling. She wasn't sure she managed it, so she returned to the phone.
"I just wanted to tell you that I might be out late. That's all."

Eddie and the band had been on tour for all of 1989, they’d gone to forty two states so far. They’d seen some beautiful women, real works of art. Models, cute college girls, even professional groupies, you name it. But on this night in Hawkins, Indiana, Eddie saw the prettiest girl he’d ever seen standing in the front row.
