There's a little bronze vase built into the foot of the headstone. Nancy digs out the grass clippings and sticky cobwebs that have accumulated since the last time someone used it, then sits down cross-legged on the grass, the way she used to sit on her bed across from Barb while they worked on their homework and whispered secrets and hopes and dreams. She unwraps the plastic from the flowers and settles them into the vase, then retrieves the water bottle from her bag to fill it.
"Hey," she says quietly. "Hey, Barb."

But when Jee laughs at him trying to get his tongue to touch his nose, and Mara loops one of her arms through his to keep him from tossing the rest of his cup in the garbage, Eddie feels solid again.
Maybe he likes yellow birthday cake ice cream after all.
(or, gerrard messes with the team's schedules and eddie 'i just drove my son to flee the state' diaz is the only option to watch mara and jee-yun after school on tuesdays, which, shouldn't be a problem at all, right?)

“Yeah, cheers mate,” Ross interrupts, patting Marlon on the chest. It was a valiant attempt to bore the thug into submission, Robert’ll give him that, but when Ross has his sights set on something, Robert knows better than anyone that nothing will stand in his way.
“Right, then. This is a nice easy one for ya. Who has our own Aaron Dingle been coppin’ off with behind his loving hubby’s back?”

Summary
Robert had never owned a home of his own. It seemed silly, really, given what a good investment a house was, and it was even sillier when he thought about it more, because his lack of home ownership had meant that Robert’s various string of so-called homes had been easily ripped from him when life went wrong, and his life inevitably always went wrong.
Robert decides to keep Annie's Field, and build himself a home of his own, and somewhere along the way, he makes some friends, develops a love for restoring grotty old furniture (Vic's words - not his) and finds his way back to Aaron.
