He will tumble over his words, execute a monumental salto of deceiving actions one after the other until he crashes down, until the dome of his lies collapses on top of him… until Fermín ends up in his arms just like this, desperate to forget, rewire, restart.

Fermín shakes his head. He digs his nails under his skin, and he thinks about breaking his own wrist, or about bashing his head against the wooden door. He wants to—he doesn’t know. But he’s not doing that. He’s just not.
“I said down,” the alpha repeats. His fingers creep up, caress Fermín’s face gently. “C’mon, now. You know it hurts less if you just get it over with.”
Maybe Fermín knows that, maybe he knew that, but he doesn’t know much of anything right now. He tries his best to duck the alpha’s touch, muscles shaking, grabbing the shelves beside him so that he doesn’t collapse. No. He’s not doing it, not like this, not this easy. He thinks about screaming for Raphinha, but he’s scared of the alpha’s fingers clasping over his mouth.

The stadium detonated. Fermín was already grinning, already jogging toward the corner flag with his arms half-out, ready for the usual chaotic pile of limbs and shouting. What he was not ready for was Raphinha. The captain spun away from the goal like a man possessed, ignored every other teammate lunging at him, and zeroed in on Fermín with terrifying accuracy. Three long strides. One hand already lifting. And then— Fingers. Deep in his curls. A firm, unapologetic pull.
Fermín’s brain short-circuited so hard he almost forgot how to stand.
Oh no, Fermín thought, very calmly, while his scalp lit up with perfect, traitorous heat.

He lets go of Pedri’s chin to grab Fermín’s, visibly squeezing his cheeks tighter. Fermín looks at him eagerly, waiting for whatever exciting thing he's about to be told. “And you, you're not coming at all.”
