Summary
Something, equal parts wariness and weariness, stirs in Olruggio’s eyes whenever Qifrey makes some reference to the future — when he indirectly promises a tomorrow, a next week, an ‘after your commissions are done’. It’s the subtlest thing, a flicker, a spark; someone who knew him less well might not pick up on it. But Qifrey knows Olruggio as well as he knows himself, and he can hardly in good conscience begrudge him his flinch of cynicism. Not when it’s wholly his own fault for having put it there.
Fool you once, shame on me. Fool you twice, still shame on me. Fool you thrice… well, if it’s any consolation whatsoever, I was fooling myself most of all.

He’s disciplined a great deal. I thought, what a fine thing, two young apprentices, similar ages, similar circumstances—”

Forced to spend an afternoon together by their masters, a young Qifrey and Easthies discover that they have absolutely nothing in common. This does not stop them from stumbling into an adventure.

“—I hurt you,” Susie finished. She chewed on the concept, the edges of her voice frantic, her throat thick. “Because you deserved it.”
“Yes.” Kris pressed her hands against their chest. They smiled in a way that failed to be reassuring. Each desperate breath shuddering through their lungs confirmed everything Susie didn't want to know. “S’fine. It’s okay.”
Kris burned like a charred pan straight out of the oven, or an oil fire stoked by liquor. Susie reeled away. “You—you were trying to set me up,” Susie accused, trying to edge words around the chasm opening in her gut. “You were trying to get me to hit you.”
Kris wants Susie to hurt them. They need her to hurt them. Susie isn't as on board with the idea as they are.

At Kimetsu University Sanemi plays hockey, Giyuu figure skates. They got off on the wrong foot (blade?) in freshman year and mutually try to stay out of each other’s way. This works until junior year, when they end up in dorms in the same building, on the same floor, in the same wing. It goes as well as one would expect.
With big dreams, high expectations, and the last person they wanted as their neighbor, Sanemi and Giyuu are in for a hell of a year.

The truth is no longer something that must be carried alone. The aftermath, and comfort only a parent could give their child.
“Master?” Qifrey calls voice hoarse in his throat. A small part of him, the one that is still a child curled in the lap of the first person to offer him warmth, begs for proof that this is real. That he won’t wake up scratching his nails raw on the unmoving wood of his coffin. “Is that you?”
The lullaby stutters before stopping. Beldaruit inhales shakily at his side the idle patterns he was tracing into the back of his hands stop as he presses his forehead to Qifrey’s knuckles. “You’re awake.” Beldaruit exhales like a prayer.

“Exactly.” Beldaruit sounds softer when he says, “kisses are a sign that two people are very close, or are interested in becoming very close. A parent might kiss their child on the head to soothe them, or the cheek to make them laugh. A friend, too, might kiss a cheek as a sign of affection.”
“Oh, so like Olly?” Qifrey brightens a little. It doesn’t sound so bad being that close to Olly, although the lips bit still sounds pretty disgusting.
