“Have you been lying in wait to ask me that all day?” Lan Zhan interrupts to ask. “Also: no. Do not dig Yanli a pond.”
“Why not?” Jin Zixuan says. “Don’t you think it’s a good idea? Yanli’s always saying how much she misses the lake near her parents’ house—it would be a little piece of home!”
Lan Zhan thinks of Wei Ying. He wonders if Wei Ying misses the lake too. Whether he might like a pond.

Suddenly, it snaps into place. The weary way Lan Zhan has been holding himself is suddenly cast in a new, much more distressing light. Somebody is responsible for it, a real live, horrible, blind, stupid person. The combination of guilt, sadness, and anger that sets in all at once is hard to contain. Lingering wisps of resentment that remain from the night-hunt flock to him, like calling to like.
All four boys stare at him with wide eyes.

“Scary,” Zizhen breathes, beaming.

Wei Wuxian squealed when Lan Wangji's tongue darted out to the very corner of his mouth in a quick kitten-lick before they broke apart.
Lan Wangji smirked at him, pointing to a spot on his own face as he pulled back. “You had chocolate, right there.” he offered as explanation.
Wei Wuxian felt the wave of lust he’d been keeping at bay since the moment the apartment door opened suddenly break free and wash over him, and every part of him felt suddenly too warm, too encumbered by clothing.
He leaned back in for another chocolatey-kiss, this one urgent, insistent, and Lan Wangji’s hands came up to wrap around his neck as they both moaned against each other’s mouths.

Wei Wuxian hadn't thought he’d make his roommate hate him within an hour of their first meeting.
There was one thing that would make him feel better. Wei Wuxian pulled out his laptop, booting it up and opening Cultivation Untamed. He then yanked his phone out of his tight jeans pocket, tapping Discord open.

Lan Wangji patiently described each item to this Wei Wuxian as he carefully packed them into boxes, lined up neatly next to the napoleons, giving quick details about the plum macarons, the maple eclairs, and the salted caramel palmier cookies.
Wei Wuxian’s eyes widened further with each description, until his head sank down onto the arms he'd folded against the counter, a groan escaping his mouth.
“Stop, please,” he said. “This all sounds so good I’m worried I’ll dive face-first into the boxes the moment I step out of here...have mercy and tie those boxes extra tight, won’t you?”
And if Lan Wangji was a little generous with his packing, already having made up his mind to provide double what the man had asked for at no additional charge….well, that was because it was the end of the selling day, and these pastries were all going to a team of well-deserving healthcare workers.
No other reason.
