She was falling.
It was dark.
She was falling.
Falling.
Falling.
Falling.
Darkness and void.
Gem began to panic as it didn’t end. She tried to breathe but couldn’t. She tried to scream but the void muffled her. Gem flailed wildly as panic set in.

Gem opened her eyes, blinking at the light of the sun. Hazily she could see three figures above her.
Gem blinked again. The figures resolved into faces and people. Two of them were very familiar.
“Pearl? Cleo?” Gem exclaimed. She sat up. The sudden motion made her head swim and throb. She rubbed her forehead.
“Who are you?” Pearl demanded.

After fleeing the destruction of Hermitcraft Gem finds herself in a new, hostile world. Familiar faces greet her, but none of them seem to recognize her. Gem makes allies and enemies as she struggles to stay alive and eventually get home. -

Summary
Former title: Truth is in the Blood
The end of Episode 7 is beautiful and awful and right for the story, but when I wiped away my tears I still wanted to see the dynamics of a thousand-year-old vampire and a crazy kid. Both of them are a total mess in different ways, but for their fleeting moment, it looked like they might be messed up in ways that could help each other become better. You'd have to be crazy to love a monster.
There are many fics in Vampires SMP about unkilling Avid. This is mine. A lot of Avid Lives fics are about giving him and Scott a happy ending. I think of mine as giving them a messy, deeply flawed, but hopeful beginning.
