Summary
Deep in Thangorodrim, Sauron wishes to break Maedhros.
'Well, never mind. My master is negotiating thy return to thy brothers,' Sauron says, as he turns to leave. He smiles over his shoulder. 'Surely, then, thou shalt not be my guest very long.'
The door is shut behind him. The hard, sharp weight of Sauron's presence lifts, and Maedhros breathes a shuddering breath. His shoulders curl inwards; his neck bends. Blood drips from the tips of his fingers and glues the hem of his tunic to his wrists.
Eventually, he sits on a velvet cushioned bench. His eyes find the scrap of sky he saw earlier. It offers no relief.

It was dusk, the sky burning red and orange and purple, when Scavalla saw the face in the water. It skimmed beneath the waves, followed by a long sleek body; it was black eyed, skin sardine silver. The face grinned, then was gone with a shimmer and burst of speed down into the depths.
The light slowly faded from the sky and the water went dark. If the face returned Scavalla could not see it.

With how strong the Strawhats had gotten, with how strong he had gotten, the thought that they could ever be hurt, let alone defeated, crossed Zoro’s mind less and less. It was at times like these, however, when he remembered. When he couldn’t afford to forget.
Everyone in the New World was there for a reason. Everyone in the New World was there because they were powerful – powerful enough to survive the absolute insanity that came with the Grand Line. And sometimes – just sometimes – even the Strawhats were faced with a dilemma like this.
Zoro looked at his nakama, fallen apart, and wanted his captain.

At night, alone in his bedroll, Astarion’s mind wanders. Away from himself, his body, his own recursive and increasingly irritating patterns of thought—it wanders and it wanders until it, eventually, ends up back where it started. Astarion on his knees, entertaining someone else.
He has spent two hundred years fantasizing about freedom—ludicrous dreams, where he is fed, where he is warm, where he parts Cazador’s head from his neck with his fangs—the stupidest, most basic, crudest ideas of what he might do if only he had the power to control himself. And now that he has that control, he fantasizes about someone taking it away again.
Specifically, he fantasizes about Wyll.
For some time, now, Astarion has fantasized about Wyll Ravengard putting him in his place. This isn't a problem, until suddenly it is.
