“Mr Thomas has been placed under your care effective immediately,” Laura continued, flipping a page. “Temporary arrangement pending review. I’ll be conducting regular home visits, both scheduled and unscheduled, so I strongly advise you to ensure the premises remain suitable.”
She stepped forward. Close enough that Jason had to shift back a half-step or get bowled over entirely by this woman who was at least two heads shorter than him, and in doing so, she brought the kid—Duke—with her.
“Hey—no, hold on a second—”
OR:With Batman gone, Gotham is falling apart. But Jason has bigger problems. Like this kid who just got dumped on his doorstep due to a case of mistaken identity. What was his name again? Oh yeah. Duke Thomas.

As he listened, Jason's brow increasingly furrowed.
"Hold on, Duke. Slow the fuck down. Social services and the cops? Why... Shit... Did you find out where... The police station... Okay. We're on the way... No. Stay in class. The last thing we need is social services up our ass because you skipped school no matter how good the reason... Yes, we'll keep you updated... Okay."
Jason hung up the phone.
"What happened?"
Jason gave them a severe look and said gravely, "Tim's parents are dead."
A father and son went to Ethiopia.
The father didn't come back.
In the wake of Bruce Wayne's death, his family has to figure out how to live in a world without him... and somehow manages to grow bigger even without his chronic adoption habit.

Even the small alleyway awning isn't doing shit really to keep him dry and Duke lets out a bitter laugh. God he must look insane. He knows his nose is definitely broken and there’s a bruise forming on his face from talking a little to reckless at his new placement. But it was all good, he’d given as much as he got. He just has to make it past this storm. He just has to survive..
He hadn't even heard the footsteps approach, but the gritty voice snaps his attention and when he looks up the red fucking Hood is standing over him. He jumps back half startled and lets out an embarrassing yelp.
“Hey kid”
