Okay, so just hear me out.
Let's say, hypothetically, you got the short end of the stick and ended up being born with the kind of superpower that automatically places you in the "villain" category. But let's say you make the best of it. You try your best to do, if not the right thing, at least the wrong thing that does the least damage- and maybe that do-gooder streak gets you into the worst situation you've ever been in, rescuing the most famous superhero of all time from his mega-evil government handlers.
And then... let's fast forward, to after all the excitement has come and gone, where in the end the two of you are stuck together in a shitty apartment in a shitty backwater town on the edge of the world, and you're stuck in a dead-end job you kind of hate, barely making rent, and because you're stuck with Mr. Paragon of Justice and Truth and Goodness you barely ever get a reason to stretch your wings and use the powers you were born with, and need to use-
Well, maybe you can understand why I did all the things I did. But you probably won't forgive me.

Inside were the young, tender shoots of false madrona. As it matured, it would spiral up into thick, branch-like hyphae, forming an impenetrable mass that could only be destroyed with fire. New and green, however, it had a powerful anti-inflammatory effect. “Fine, lad, use the spoon if you need to,” he sighed as Nigel struggled.
