Erebor receives a letter from Bilbo and Thorin inviting Dis and the company to a party at Bag-End. Gandalf and most of the other hobbits in the shire are invited too. After arriving there, Dis makes it clear she does not approve of Bilbo, so he decides to just get it over with and ask Thorin to court him. Thorin had the exact same idea. Bilbo and Thorin do their respective courting traditions of baked goods gifting and hair braiding. Lobelia does not approve of the courtship at all, which disrupts Bilbo’s party.
