Hua Cheng’s arms are gentle and warm around him. Xie Lian knows from experience that they’re strong enough to carry him through a battle with ease. His mind wanders back to the Sinner’s Pit, to the steady comfort of Hua Cheng’s hold, to how cherished he felt when Hua Cheng said in a serious voice, “It’s dirty.”
He can’t help but inwardly chuckle at the memory. And then, something else resurfaces, something Xie Lian pushed to the back of his mind over eight hundred years ago. Xie Lian bites his lower lip, his chest suddenly full of want yet too scared to appear selfish or spoiled.
Hua Cheng notices the change right away. He pulls back just enough so he can look at Xie Lian’s eyes. His eyes are full of curiosity, as well as concern. “Gege?”
“It’s nothing. Nothing wrong,” Xie Lian says quickly, not wanting to worry Hua Cheng. “I just remembered something we used to do... In the court of Xianle.”
“Oh?” Hua Cheng tilts his head to the side.
Amidst the dream that is Paradise Manor, Xie Lian remembers the good and bad of Xianle. Thankfully for him, Hua Cheng is right there to remind him how loved he really is.
