Summary
Still, it was funny to him - really, it was! - that everyone at the academy, especially his students, had come to the conclusion that he, somehow, had mad game.
Maybe he is really good in bed, uttered, quietly, by one of his Advanced Transmutation students, as they waited with their friends on the hallways outside of his office. Maybe, had squeaked one of the shyer boys in his class, he is dating all of them. You know. That’s a thing.

The mystery of Professor Widogast, and his various romantic escapades.

“Essek, It’s me.” His voice was soft, almost pleading.

“You're scaring me.”
*********************

*I’m just saying you should either kiss him or come get some healing potions so neither of you dies before you get your happy ending—*
Caleb inhaled sharply. For all her hamster unicorns and bright colors and dick jokes, Jester had a knack for slicing painfully at truths his logic worked hard to shield him from.
“I… appreciate the encouragement. Maybe someday, if Essek is of a mood to, we will be together for a while. But a happy ending? Impossible.”
The day after destroying the T-dock chamber, Essek overhears Caleb’s predictions about their future and has Things To Say about that.

Summary
“What if I didn’t care.” The words surprise Essek for how true they actually are. He wouldn’t care if the Nein saw them kissing, they all knew they did anyway. What difference did it make if they had some actual evidence of it?
Caleb’s eyes darkened.
“Essek.”
“What if I decided that I don’t care, that all I’ve been able to think about for the last hour is your hands and I’ve had to sit there and converse—” He breaks off, licking his lips as his mouth is dry. “I want you. I want you and it’s distracting, and you have utterly broken my ability to sit there and pretend that I am not thinking about anything but your hands and skin. What have you done to me.”
---
In which Essek's concentration is tested, the wizards have feelings, and discover that maybe they should pay a slight bit more attention to their surroundings.

Summary
Fear.
All of the Nein felt it at once, a sense of all-encompassing, unbridled terror. They all glanced around at each other, trying to discern which of them the feeling was originating from.
"Caleb!" Essek. It was Essek.
As the Nein collectively turned toward their drow companion, they saw exactly why he was so afraid.
Lucien's scimitars, which he had produced from seemingly nowhere, were both thrust through Caleb's chest. Caleb hung limply from the blades that held him suspended several inches off of the ground, seemingly just barely clinging to consciousness.

Summary
Caleb gets a rare evening of privacy, and takes advantage of it - unbeknownst to him, he isn't doing a very good job keeping his thoughts to himself.
(Like in my most recent work, NC tag because Caleb doesn't know he's sending his thoughts out and Essek didn't ask for them, so it's tagged NC just to be safe).
(Unlike in that one, it is not immediately resolved, so if that's an issue, wait for the next bit). -

Summary
Of all the orchestras Caleb had played in throughout his younger years, none of the musicians he’d met had anything on Essek Thelyss.
It was hard to think this was the same man who had voraciously discussed time dilation and dark matter over coffee. Not that someone couldn’t be a talented musician and scientist -- Caleb fell neatly into that category. But Essek… the amount of talent and skill in that one small drow was astounding. Cosmically unfair.
And incredibly attractive.

Summary
Essek loops the silver cord around his own wrist, like half of a handfast. ‘What I mean to express,’ he says softly, ‘is that this spell requires a degree of trust.’
Ah, Caleb thinks. Yes, that is always the issue, between the two of them.
(In which Lucien takes Caleb's mind, and in the aftermath, two wizards confront questions of trust and time.)
