The room is too bright.
It’s quaint, in a nauseating sort of way. Polished floors glint from the gleaming honeycomb chandeliers overhead, make him squint. A few vases sprinkled here and there, filling the room with a sickeningly sweet scent – even a waffle-cone headrest framing the silken sheets of a neatly-tucked bed. Outside, the golden sun gleams, the gentle rays of light spilling past curtains that waver in the afternoon breeze.
It's meant to be beautiful. Luxurious. Welcoming.
With one sweep of his cane, Shadow Milk tears it apart.

Hugo’s resentment at Lycaon’s decision to leave Mockingbird, his hatred towards his father, the fear as he sat at Lycaon’s side, waiting – for either help to come, or for Lycaon’s heartbeat to fade away – all of that has been smothered by sheer exhaustion, leaving Hugo numb and empty.
Without his emotions getting in the way, Hugo’s thoughts are startlingly clear.

Al-Haitham hums, sitting back in his seat. His eyes get that look they always do when he's thinking– at least that had stayed the same– before he put his hands in his pockets.
“You can stay with me, if you'd like,” he says all too casually as he pulls a hand back out his pocket. “For the time being,” he adds on a little too quickly, “until you manage to get yourself out of the mess you’ve made.”
Kaveh was about to open his mouth to protest. Like he'd ever take an offer from him, especially with that attitude.
But then Al-Haitham slides a key across the table to him–golden, with emerald embellishments, a carbon copy of the soulmark on Kaveh's arm– and the words on his lips dissipate into the warm tavern air.

ohhhhhhv mmmmyyuu gooofddnneessss i read this when i was at the peak of my persona and by extension, akeshuake phase maybe around 12 or 13, when i was old enough to understand the depths of their relationship but not enough life experience for it to affect me so.
little did i know it wasnt a phase at all. these two truely are brainworms, theyre worse than drugs. my heart aches rereading this series so much. rereading these fics i once read when i was so little was truely a random bored thought but booting up my old ng+ save file when my attention span wasnt enough to sit through the whole game again just to see the two interact was not on my 2024 bingo card.
this was a truely wonderful read, both nostalgic and a wonderful new experience. thank you authors and artists, you are truely the best <3
