There's a pit in his stomach as soon as he opens his eyes, because the alarm is on again, the same radio station, the same song. The sunlight streaming into the room is buttery-soft, brand new because it's early. The alarm is ringing so they can take Chris to school. And—
He reaches out for the bedside table on his side of the bed they share, clumsily unplugs his phone one-handed. The screen lights up to a familiar wallpaper, and it's right there, just above the top of Buck's head: Wednesday.

Eddie shrugs, not really agreeing or disagreeing. It’s a few seconds before he says, eyes still closed, “Maybe I’m here so you’re not alone.”

“How do you know?” Olivia has started to come out of her shell.
“He takes care of everyone. He even takes care of me when I get hurt. He’s pretty amazing.” Buck could feel his face heat up, it always happens when he talks about Eddie.
Olivia went quiet for a minute like she was trying to figure out what she wanted to say, “Like a superhero!”
“Yes! Just like a superhero!” Hen was always amazed at how well Buck did with children, it came naturally to him.

The words died in his throat along with the shatter of the mug against the floor. But Eddie barely noticed he dropped it, his mouth slightly agape as he stared at Buck, took in the bruises, and the blood, and general brokenness of the man before him.

Or: After the Lawsuit, Buck is starting to think his team will never forgive him and is feeling lonelier than ever, when his dad shows up, looking for money that Buck doesn't have. Now, his ribs are broken and his face has been pummelled into one big bruise. All he wants to do is retreat to his empty apartment and wallow in his own self-pity, but before that he needs to get his keys, which he'd left at the station the previous night.
Everyone else is on shift, so he's hoping he can sneak into the locker room and be gone before anyone notices he was there, but this is Buck, so of course, nothing goes to plan.

Eddie swallows again, heart pounding, but he gets up and trails after the stranger. All the lights are on in the house, which, weird, but not as weird as the strange teleporting man. "Who are you?" He hesitantly asks for the third time.
"You can call me Danny," the man says, throwing a look over his shoulder, "But shouldn't you be more concerned about the gigantic mistake you're making tomorrow?"

Buck met Eddie in the spring.
Eddie Diaz came into the café near closing time, sliding into a booth farthest away from the front doors- and Buck noticed right away that he looked tired, his military uniform rumpled and his hands pressed over his eyes as he soaked in the quiet around them.
It was a pull, to be the one to take his order. At the time he couldn't have explained why he hurried to beat Hen to that table, sliding up and coughing awkwardly to get the man's attention. And when those dark brown eyes lifted to meet his, Buck felt like his heart was going to beat out of his chest.

Buck's worn down face screws in confusion and he knits his brows, looking at Eddie in complete shock like he doesn't believe what he is seeing. "E-Eddie?"
"Yeah, Buck. It's me." Eddie smiles gently and cups Buck's face, tilting his head to see his boyfriend. "I'm here, you're safe."
But Buck holds his wrist and lowers it down from his face, his broken eyes widening with fresh tears as he starts to shake his head and pulls away. His voice painfully hoarse as he speaks. "N-no, no, you're— you're dead, you're dead."

It just made it all the more ridiculous (and horrifying) when Eddie realizes he’s been dating his Captain’s son this whole time (“Defiling his baby,” Chimney cackled, because he clearly wanted Eddie murdered.)
