Summary
It all went to hell after the final battle between All for One and Shigaraki. In Katsukis opinion, they won the battle but lost the war. Sue him if losing Izuku forever but defeating the greatest evil Japans ever seen doesn’t seem like a fair trade. Years pass and Katsuki is a pro hero working a regular shift when a run in with a mysterious woman changes his life forever. Changes his life in a way that maybe, just maybe, he’ll get to see the one person he wants the most again. Izuku.

“Y’know you really oughta—“ Katsuki started with a low growl, glancing back up to see who the idiot was that just ran into him. But when a pair of wide green eyes full of concern met his cold red ones, Katsuki felt like the whole world came to a screeching halt.
He blinked.
And then he did it again, and when what he was sure he’d just imagined didn’t disappear, his heart skipped a beat. For a second the world went silent. The sound of people entering the coffee shop, the soft chatter of conversation, the sound of everything all faded into the ringing filling Katsuki’s ears. He couldn’t breathe—fuck, he couldn’t even move, because standing right in front of him… was Izuku.

“Who gave you a baby?” Dick demanded, the instant Bruce opened the front door, eyes drawn immediately to the sobbing infant on Bruce’s hip that he gently bounced to no avail. At the same time, Bruce muttered, “I told you, it’s fine, you didn’t have to come.”
Dick rolled his eyes and pushed past him. Noted the scattered blankets, baby clothing, and dirty dishes gracing nearly every surface of the lake house with a glance. “I figured that out when you hung up on me. My question still stands: who in their right mind gave you an infant?”
Bruce opened his mouth and then shut it. Took a deep breath which he blew out slowly. The plain white dress shirt he favored on the weekends was streaked with what looked like pea puree, sweet potato, and snot. “A desperate alien ship with no other options.”
“Yeah, that scans.”

They knew from the beginning that there was no coming back from this. Darkseid had already taken everything from them, and if they wanted to rebuild—if they wanted to buy themselves some more time with the people they love before it was all lost again—this was their only choice.
With his children dead at his feet, and with everyone he had ever tried to protect long gone, Bruce was ready to dig his own grave. The mission was over. He had failed. Even those left standing—Clark, Diana, J’onn, Barry—were hanging on by a thread. There were a few others too, but Bruce couldn’t pull himself out of his grief long enough to register who was still standing. Even as the final plan, their last chance, was being discussed, Bruce felt a million miles away.
Absolution finds him where he least deserves it.

It becomes a bit of a tradition, after this; when Wally gets mad, he announces with a (obnoxiously loud) screech he'll be living with Uncle Bats until Barry gets his act together, except the smaller redhead doesn't use the word 'act' and Batman, with a reputation to uphold, has to resist the urge to cover Robin's ears.
Or; everyone fears Batman. the younger heroes tend to forget that. Bruce didn't choose the hesitant uncle role but the hesitant uncle role chose Bruce.
